Portable Carport/Garage

wildbill23c. I've been here 53 years and the weather here has gotten weird too. The past 2 Winters it hasn't dropped below -30 degrees. Normal years we would see -40 to -65. We are classified as semi- arrid and for the entire year, so far we have had 8" of rain.

Clothing has improved so much that we rarely get cold anymore. We ride snowmobiles down to about -20 before wimping out. Haha. Snow gets 2-3 feet deep but turns to small ice pellets by the time winter is over. Yet to find any place I'd rather be.

I'm about 30 miles west of Boise Idaho, we used to have some pretty descent snow here that would drive the deer and elk down to about a mile from my house, we are lucky to see a few inches of snow that is gone within a couple days if not sooner. I don't like it, I wish it would snow a lot more here, its just not winter without snow.

I was born in California and my grandparents lived in Citrus Heights. It actually snowed in Citrus Heights one year, I have pictures of me playing in the snow when I was like 4 years old LOL. It has never snowed there since then.

I spent 13 months in Kirkuk Iraq in 2004-2005, it snowed there in March. From what our interpreter said it hadn't snowed there in over 20 years.

I can deal with the cold much better than the heat, but its the whole moving thing that I don't wanna have to do LOL...that and the whole money and job thing would be a huge problem. Jobs are extremely hard for me to find so there's absolutely no way I could move from where I am now.

Thank you for your service! We had 3 sons over there and thank God they all made it home.
I hear ya about the job situation. I am just glad I made it to retirement before the last recession hit. The job market around here is pretty bleak. I spent 30 years in school maintenance and we had 8 schools spread out over 25,000 square miles. The school district is now down to just 3 schools. The kids grow up and leave because of the lack of jobs and more and more parents leave when they retire because the cost of living is so high.

I don't see myself ever leaving but you never know. This is home and I love it.

Sounds like both our towns are about the same. People go to school here, graduate, then leave to find a job that they can actually survive on. Businesses here whine and complain nobody wants to work, well shit, when you want to pay your employees minimum wage for labor jobs duh why would they stay here, no benefits, terrible pay, and overall job uncertainty that is unless you are of a certain religious group and then it don't matter if you burned the building down they'd never fire you.

I'm 34 years old, I have many more years of work a head of me before I could ever think of retiring. Should have stayed in the military...rather should have just went active duty rather than National Guard LOL.

I was in the Marines from 72-76 and they had promotion freezes. I made E-4 in 18 months and could go no further up the ranks for the foreseeable future so I got out and came back home. Had one kid that wanted to stay in but they forced him out for no good reason. He is in the Guard now.

Life is a constant battle anymore. Shitty wages, A-Hole Bosses and the list goes on...a good attitude helps to overcome the BS. If you have a roof over your head and food in your belly then you got 'er made! I think it only took me about 54 years to realize that most crap isn't worth worrying about or getting stressed over. My motto is "Shit Happens" and " If you don't mind, It don't matter".

I'm slowly learning your mottos LOL. For years I worried about every little thing. I'm slowly learning to just ignore about 99% of everything for the sake of my health. Where I'm working at now isn't too bad, there are days just like any other job that make you want to just walk out but not as often here as previous jobs. We are moving to a new location so the stress levels are extremely high right now until we get moved. Basically moving to a new location and starting from scratch, kind of think its going to be a huge improvement. Can't wait to get things moved and get settled into the new building. I work at an appliance sales & service business, been here for a year and 9 months. I don't think I'm going anywhere anytime soon LOL.

Moving Sucks! In 1992 I had to move in to a brand new school building during Christmas vacation. It was -55 degrees and I had 2 southern boys hired to help out. They about froze their gonads off but we got it done.

I also learned that "Everything is not an Emergency". And had one hell of a hard time trying to get Principals, Teachers and Superintendents to grasp that concept. You do what you can do and eventually, it all gets done. My fuse and tolerance level was getting short so the day I was first eligible to retire, I did.

Haha...We were getting one school remodeled, one demolished and a brand new one built. My work load was about to triple overseeing these projects so I pulled the plug and all my stress disappeared instantly.

You will get thru the move, just don't let the additional stress wear you down.

This is exactly what I go through just a different type of job. However, people think everything is an emergency...yet when you actually get some information from them it turns out that particular appliance hasn't worked in weeks or months yet for some reason they seem to think you need to get there that minute to fix it. Sure if its a refrigerator or freezer, and their only one at that we will do an emergency call. A broken dishwasher or an icemaker that doesn't make ice is NOT an emergency LOL. A dishwasher or icemaker that is leaking water and flooding your house on the other hand is an emergency LOL.

The ones I love are the calls where they bought a new appliance and want us to install it, but they want it done for free.

Huge thing here where I live is people want to be tight asses and not spend any money, so they want discounts, handouts, and everything free. Then they try to use the oh I'm friends with so and so and I reply with that's nice but its still not free.

What's the price on this appliance, or that appliance. Oh well I'll drive 30 miles because its $50 cheaper. Ok fine, but don't call us when Lowes or Home Depot charges you $150+ to deliver it to your door and not install it.

We had a guy a couple months ago that came in, wanted us to order him a new dishwasher. The boss was there and gave him a price on it, and a pretty descent discount as well. The guy says well I'll just drive to Ontario and get it, its $100 cheaper. So he sends his wife to pick it up, she gets it home we come out to install it, its still in the box. We unbox it and find a major dent in the front panel, not something you could just take the panel off and pop out, it was damaged beyond repair. She has to now drive back to Ontario which is 35 miles one way and take it back. They had to order her a new dishwasher. So 3 days later she has to drive back over there and get it. Gets it, gets it back home and its the wrong color. Finally after 4 trips they get the right dishwasher, but they've now spent several hours and a lot of gas (diesel rather) driving back and forth. All the while we had the exact dishwasher in stock. So when we went out to install it, I just couldn't stand it I said are you glad you saved $100 on that dishwasher :icon_rofl:.

EXACTLY! Hahaha! People are getting weirder and weirder. God handed out one tiny asshole per person so how did these people become Total Assholes? The Country is going to hell and I can see why.

Married? Second one here and I finally scored a "Keeper". Don't know how she puts up with my dumb ass though.

I agree, not really getting weirder. They're getting lazier is what I've ran into, they want people to work their ass off for them, but they don't want to work, they can't hold down a job, show up late, don't show up at all but whine and cry when they get canned.

No I'm not married. Close a few times but never tied the knot.

I was looking at the shop this afternoon, and changed my plans again LOL. Rather than building onto the back due to the space, I think I'll add onto the front, much more room and the area in front would be much easier for access, and then have the drive through door on the end as planned, but the addition will go on the front instead of the back side.

You'll have to email me some photos of your building project so I can visualize what you are up against. I sent you a PM with my daddy. (Addy) not daddy!

I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow. Its a mess right now as I haven't done much this year other than work so I haven't done much in the way of cleanup around the house this year at all :(.

Haha. You should see my garage and barn. More than knee deep!

I think my stuff is mostly knee deep in dirt and dust. Bad enough that occasionally I have to move my table saw and fill in under it because it slowly sinks into the dirt LOL.

Haha My old barn has a dirt floor so I can relate. What is easier for you, email or TRS? My wife informed me that people don't use email much anymore. I am lucky to do either. I putter mostly on a Kindle but do have a PC. Have a cell phone but not a smart phone. She says I'm socially challenged as well as electronically stupid. GUILTY! That's me!
