So I've been thinking about what kind of system I'd like to put in my 97. It's a singlecab so pretty limited on space. I have seen a couple slammed trucks with Port-through sub boxes around town. I've never really been into big systems but I'm beginning to love some of my buddies systems. But, If I'm gonna do a system I'm going to do it big the FIRST time. I dont want to buy, sell, buy sell like they have done; I just want it good the first time and over with.

So I'm thinking to cut through the cab and bed and weld it water-tight in the bed to encase 2 12" or 15" subs and amps depending on the subs. It is going to be spendy. after I've searched around I am guessing about a grand. I talked to the local audio shop and they said that they would charge at leas $600 for the work alone:stop:, so I'll do that myself. But what should I look out for? any particular subs or amps to stay away from? It's a street rod in the making, so not too much flex to worry about. Thanks everybody.

i know of a few guys with 4x4s and they are runing blow throughs. One guys runing a built 3/4 ton 89 ram and he used a tool box to hold the sub box and amps. A audio shop i worked at once upon a time had a 84 ranger with 4 15's in the back, we used a V shaped box and filled the cab with cement

what are you giong to weld water tight? between the cab and the bed? i dont know about that. all of the blow throughs ive seen use a camper shell gasket(the one that seals the shell to the rear window).

well since your wanting a loud system your definitly gonna want spl gear. here are some brands of subs to take a look at:
RE Audio
Fi Audio
DD
Sound Splinter
Sundown

Ya, I was thinking to weld tight just the sub enclosures, but the camper shell seals sound like a more sure way to seal it off. thanks. And also thanks for all the sub suggestions.

you cannot have a solid joint between the cab and bed as the two bodies move independently of one another. if you tried to connect them it would rip your welds out or deform the metal on the cab or bed.

you know with a little work it wouldnt be that hard to stuff a couple 12's behind the seats in a standard cab and push them with plenty of wattage (to make up for the lack of box volume). it would have a respectable amount of power...
