Por 15 and opinion

Saw on you tube that you they some marine clean and chemical that they put on be for the por15. Do I need to buy these chemicals because I don't really want to spent that much money. Could i just clean it with something like mineral spirits?

Also I plan to do my rockers to cover up some rust. And prevent it from coming back in the the salt roads of winter. Which option do you think I should do.?

Just a note, you need to top coat the POR15 if it is in any area that is exposed to the sun, it is UV sensitive and will break down.

Not to sure about the prep. I think you can buy a kit that will get you everything you need. And POR 15 is a sealer, they say you can actually paint over rusted panels and it will seal it up and prevent it from getting any worse. I do know it is hard as a rock when you put it on. As far as your options, I'd start with the 1st cause you can always add the fenders after you finish the rockers

Well I dont really want to buy the starter kit. I plan to but a gallon size from Summit and doing the wheel tubs and fame and what ever else I seem fit

get the kit. more money i know, but it will get the surface prepped the right way for the POR. spending that much on the coating, you'll want to be assured that the correct prep was done so you'll get the results you want and payed so much for.
just my $.02.

i voted for option 1 because you usually see the fender lips start to rust first.

I bought the mini kit on Ebay for about $25. I used it to seal up the underside of the hatch on my Mustang. I was very surprised at how far it went. I did the whole bottom side, and I still had more than half left. I really suggest doing the Marine Clean and Metal Ready process before applying the POR.

By the way, I did 3 coats - it took 3 or 4 days total, but very worth the effort. It's rock solid.

Just priced it out on summit for everything needs. $108.80 after shipping. Doesnt seem to bad since I should be able to cover rockers,frame, underbody.

I painted most of the frame and both sides of the floor pan of my daughter's Jeep last fall with POR-15. Too soon to say how it works. I will say that if you get it on your skin it will come off with acetone if you get it before it dries. Once it dries, it will take about two weeks to wear off. I know this. Also I left a brush I used in a dish with paint thinner overnight and the next day it was hard as a rock. So use clothes that you don't care about and wear long rubber gloves.

Yeah, you better be willing to be showing it off for a while if you're not wearing gloves. I also ruined a shirt with it.

I have had much better luck with Chassis Saver than I have with POR-15, I would personally recommend that. What exactly are you trying to accomplish anyway? Is it rusting or what? If there are holes, keep in mind that vehicles rust from the inside out, so whatever you slop on top might be a wasted venture if you don't fix it properly.

I did my rear frame up nicely with it.. used all the proper products and etched for as long as the instructions recommended. Turned out nice.

Now isnt this a family site as well. HaHa Just doesnt sound right. Chassis Saver is basically the same stuff as POR15,but $30 cheaper per qrt. Will be coating a ladder Rack & my stinger front bumper com pared to $500+ for powder coating.
