pop-out windows?

When I saw the thread title, I thought this was going to be on BII windows.....

I almost thought about posting my progress...

I took the side windows and rear window (the ones in the truck were clear and the ones I got from the parts truck were the factory tint/ mirrored style) out of a '95 B2300 and put them directly into my '93 Ranger. The hardest part by far, was getting the gooey-sealer crap off the window/ frame.

The non-pop-out windows are held in with 4 bolts if I recall (possible 6, but I'm pretty sure it's 4), and the pop-outs are held in with 4 rivets in the front, and then 2 bolts for the back latch part.

I guess I'll do a little write up because I'm board.

Removal:
remove all the interior panels from the back of the truck, I'll let you figure that one out, it isn't too hard. Then you will see the 4 bolts that hold in the side window in, I don't recall what size they are, but undo all 4, then carefully push outward on the window while somebody waits on the outside. The gooey sealer will just kind of stretch for the most part, and it might come off in a few places. Just keep slowly pushing on the window until it comes loose from the goo. I simply used a gasket scraper to get the remainder of the sealer off the window opening, and it just rolls off the window side with your finger. That is about all there is to the removal.

Installation:
First I put the rubber weather striping around the edge of the window opening. The holes for the pivot bracket in the front of the window are already in the window opening/ cab, you just have to hold the window in place and rivet the suckers in. Then in the back, you will need the clip-nut things (I don't know the real name, but they just clip onto the cab, Ford uses a lot of them) that clip around the metals holes to act as the nut, then you must mark and drill the interior panel so that the latch bolts can go through the panel. If I recall, the spots were actually marked on the inside with a little bump of some kind from the factory. Then you must reinstall the interior side molding, then you're ready to put the latch on. From what I remember it was kind of tricky to get the bolts lined up with the latch piece, panel, and clip nuts, but it is possible. After that, you are done.

My side windows were really stiff at first because I think they had never been opened very much. I use them all the time, so now they open much easier.

I have had 2 1998's with pop outs. I have a set if someones interested...

Yup, my 2002 Ranger is a super cab with only the two doors... and no pop out rear qtr windows. I'd like to try adding them. I'll have to check the local pick and pull boneyard next time I'm out that way.

Just make sure you remember to grab the weather striping! I almost forgot that when I got my windows.

Do 83-92 Ranger have the same side windows as a 93-present? Then look the same. I haven't looked at the windows on a 4 door model, but I would think they'd be different.

So as far as rear pop outs go, does this mean.....

I can get two pop out side rear windows from a 1994 ranger...will they will fit in a 2000 four door??? After reading this thread I am now totally confused. :icon_confused:

I been thinking of instalilng pop-outs windows in my truck. i have everything I need off my parts truck which has them.
Are thy more prone to leaking or any other problems?
just wondering, I dont want to do the swap if there more trouble than there worth

My Dad's '93 had 'em. They were an option on my '97 that I didn't get and wish I had.

Those of you who have installed "pop-outs", did you change the interior
panels? Seems like there's either a cut to make in the existing trim panel
to accommodate the "latch" or a different interior door panel to get which
provides for the latch?

From studying the Ford repair micro-fiches on the subject, it looks like the
two hinges on the front edge of each pop-out are riveted in place?

Then, if you did replace the interior panels: Did you get them from a
salvage yard? Was the salvage able to "locate and or order the panels"?
How about color matching? Any difficulties?

Again, you who have done this -- do they leak? ...or are the secure and
dry?

Old thread I know, but I want to change out the fixed windows in my 86 super cab.The junk yard is full of 93 and up but no older ones. Will 93 and up work in my 86?Thanks

Research/learning so far...

Talk to your Ford dealer. There were several years where the pop-outs existed as original equipment. The major weather-seal gaskets can be obtained new at LMC
Truck to minimize leakage?! Not expensive...

I was stuck on finding interior trim panels. Then a visit to the Ford Dealer said they cannot find interior panels for pop-outs that were different from the fixed glass?! Haven't done the swap yet, though... The glass is smaller by about an inch in
two directions because the pop-out fits inside the frame the fixed glass covers.

Believe my set is from an Mazda four-door a year or two older. A check at Ford can tell you which body-series years are interchangeable...

What model panels do you need? They are two trucks here in the jy.

Lmc lists the same gasket for 86 and 93 so I think they will work.I am going to pick up a set from the pull a part and try them.I will update this when I do.
