The sensor on the crankshaft is not installable 180 out in functional terms. The #1 is at TDC on both exhaust and compression strokes. I read up on DIS systems a bit. There's no cam sensor, the pair of plugs fire on compression and exhaust, i.e., at TDC for the paired cylinders 1&4, 2&3. This is duplicated for the intake side spark plugs... Gee what a 'whiz bang' system. Rube G must have been involved.
Anyway, you can't install the ignition out of time as long as the sensor on the crank nose is mounted properly. I do not think it can be installed 180 out.
As noted previously, the pointer behind the timing cover should be at the triangle(older...) or 'some mark' on the edge of the cam sproket when the crankshaft is at TDC. If you are not sure if your crank is at TDC, you can remove the plugs, rotate by hand and look for the top of the piston. Have fun with that. A second choice is to remove the pulley and look for the keyway to be at Noon.
A second thing to look for is intake manifold leaks. If the gasket folded or fell slightly out of place, it can leak excess air that the MAF does not report. You would have poor running then.
