Would it be worth it to install a rear sway bar on my 92' ranger?

It didn't come with one and I notice it isn't really "tight" when rounding corners.

I notice a HUGE difference between my mom's '90 4x4 and my '94 2x4 because of that sway bar.

well, i'm just a little southeast of you. i'm carrying an extra 27 gallons of gas in the bed in an un-baffled tank. sway bar is going on next week! it will also help lots in the winter when you're carrying bags of sand, salt, floor dry, etc. back there for traction.

Well, I don't drive it in the winter. She sleeps all winter until the spring rains have liberally washed all traces of road salt off the hwys.

I'm looking to do this because since I went V8, I can now get up to speed and such, but the roll from the turns is rediculous. New shocks all around and new V6 coils in the front helped out dramatically, but I want more without lowering the truck or going bagged.

Yeah definately put a sway bar on the rear to help stiffen the suspension up.

FOr a street truck you cant beat a good sway bar, the sway bar off a mustang gt 8.8 is a good fit. Its better if you can get the 8.8 and sway bar altogether, it makes a nice swap. But get the support brace for the front shock towers because otherwise it will throw your steering off.Without a sway bar in the rear you will under steer, with a swaybar in the rear and not in the front you will over steer, due to the way the body rolls. But with a good balance between front and rear it will handle like a dream, referring of course to sway bar size, the gt bar is just the right size to compliment our front sway bar.

for an application like yours (street ranger with a motor that has no problem gettin you into trouble hahaha), i say you without a doubt NEED a rear sway bar. there should be a night and day difference in the twisties!

The ones I've been looking at are 7/8" diameter and around $170 for it and the whole installation hardware.

Is 7/8" a pretty good diameter to work with?

i'd go bigger. again, check out the lmc link in my last post and you'll see the numbers they use when deciding which bar you want to get. they aren't cheap there, but the table showing the diameters and ratings is worth checking out. you could probably find them cheaper somewhere else after looking at the chart and picking out the one you want.

They have different thicknesses for the front sway bar, but not the back one. 7/8" is the standard across the board for the rear one.


Maybe I should upgrade the rear AND the front one.
