You know, we're inevitable. Eventually something had to come along that broke out of the tooth and claw, natural law. At no point in our history did we do anything wrong. We did a lot right. We contained our problems. We advanced our best traits.

Don't throw us out like that. Nothing in the universe can shine like we have. We're doing our best to recognize, understand and react to the situation.

The rest of the universe is a cold dark nothing that is only made interesting by our perception. Without us, everything is nothing. With us and our awareness, there is light.

I'm still cracked up by a friend who was all freaked out by

No, Allan. ALL the ice is projected to melt by September. The NORTH POLE will be ice free, not the NW Passage. And the source for this is the horse's mouth,
the (US) National Snow & Ice Data Center.

Curiously, it has been almost completely absent in the US press until quite recently (though CNN has picked it up). It's been all over the Canadian and British press.

The North Pole melting doesn't directly affect sea level, but it can substantially accelerate melting in Greenland, which can raise it significantly.

I sawthe story on the news last nite. They showed a satellite view of last years ice melt. Then they showed the same view of this year. It looked like way more ice had melted this year and the summer melting wasnt over yet. It looked like a huge area was melted.

The ice is melting way too fast. Day After Tomorrow is coming our way. The way they talked about the salinity levels in the North Atlantic Current are correct. It runs like an engine, transferring heat and cold through the jet streams and sea and keeps things at a fairly balanced temperature. If that salinity level gets too low from the melting freshwater ice in the Arctic ocean then the engine will shut down and we'll be thrown into a world of strange weather and possibly a new ice age. History channel has had a lot about this, saying how its the same way the previous Ice Ages started.

Kelly88, the Day After Tomorrow movie pisses off climatologists because it compresses decades of changes into a single night. It's never going to happen THAT way. And yes, every last one I know (and there are a bunch) saw that movie within a week of its opening. When Hollywood speaks about your profession, you kinda want to see what they say, even if it's offensive.

Ya I know the movie was definitely not completely accurate in every aspect. Specifically the time intervals. But they were right in how a change or a stop in the North Atlantic current can disrupt the weather patterns all over the world.
