Plus, the car was cheaper to buy than to buy a new set of Swampers next winter when they'd be bald as hell from driving at least 40 miles a day.

This is the best pic of it where its on fairly level ground.
maybe im opening an old post but you have 4.56 gears and are upset about gas mileage? A guy I knew had a 91 ranger with 2.3 and 33 inch mickey's he had 4.11 gears and pulled a 40 ft boat till he upgraded. with those tires and 4 banger the 4.11's moved without any effort and i had to let out the clutch without giving gas or it spun. your gearing is way too high even for those tires is why the bad gas. go witht eh 4.10 or 4.11 gearing and you wont have gas issues anymore.
Not sure what your friend has done to make his run so great, but the 91 is the gen 2, which weighs depending on the style, 2800-3200 lbs stock. and the gen 3 is 3000-3300 stock. If your buddies was a reg cab, mostlikley it hardly weighs over 3000, mine stock was 3300, but when I had it on the scales a few months ago it was 4000+, which is quite a bit more than 3300. So the 4.56 are actually just about right, but many on here have told me to go even higher. Also, when I had only 30 inch tires a few shops said that 4.10's wouldn't be worth the time, and the 4.56 were perfect.
