I'm wanting to buy a set of American Racing AR23 rims. They are 15X8" with a 3.75" backspace and -19mm offset. Tires I have are 255/70R15.

Tire shop says these rims will extend too far out from the body and recommends I get something with a zero offset. This is not available with the rims I want (or others I've previewed).

If your your running 15X8 rims please post a pic for me to see how they look. If you know the specs of the rim (backspace & offset) please include that as well.

Thanks for any feedback!
Mark

15 x 8 with 4” back space 31 x10.50 all terrain tires rims are cragar soft 8 steel. If you’d like a straight view down the side I can get a fresh pic.

15 x 8 m/t classic alloy wheels, unknown offset but I believe they are centered. Ran rubber fender flares for a while but removed them for some stainless trim.
tires are 235/75/15.

American Racing rims. Don't know the rim size. 255/60-15 rear, 205/7-15 front. Don't have the center caps anymore, but they said American Racing on them.

Those rims should be fine.

I would say the tire shop is "kinda" right... these wheels will extend out past the body. They are 1 3/4 inch wider per wheel. @tw205 picture illustrates that fairly well. I'm pretty sure the soft 8's are 3.75 backspace. Is it to far for what you wanna do or how your suspension is set up is the question.

The saving grace for you might just be your 29 inch tall tire. My guess is if you are at a factory ride height (not 30 +year old droopy springs with your V8 on top of it) you will probably be ok. There is still a chance of a little rub going lock to lock on the steering when the suspension is compressed. If you are anything over factory ride height with a 29 inch tall tire... I think you will be fine.

What works for you... might not work for someone else... these trucks just seems to be that way. But if those are the wheels you desire... I'm sure they can be made to fit with a couple tweaks. That size 15x8 3.75 BS has literally been on a million first gen Rangers.

It’s all good, but just for clarification
15 x 8 with 4” backspacing. I do believe the other brand soft8 style are 3.75. Carry on gentlemen 👍🏼

There is also another tech library article with pictures if various truck/wheel/tire combinations. Very helpful for a visual reference.
