Well I finally found a motor for my '00 Ranger. Picked up another red '00 Ranger w/ a 40k mile 3.0 for $750 (truck was t-boned but still runs/drives). Anyway the donor truck has an automatic and mine is a 5spd. Would it be easy to switch mine to an auto?. I hope to have the swap done sometime within the next 10 days. The donor truck will leave me with many spare parts and it's the same color red. I get tons of extra parts!

Is it possible to convert your truck to an auto? Yes.

But I wouldn't recommend it....

BTW, like your bed.

You will need the wire harness from the donor along with the transmission and the PCM.
Also I sugest the ABS system but you may skip this.
Make sure you have the same gear ratios in the differential. If not... swap'em too.
Nice truck...
Good luck.

i highly recommend keeping the 5speed but its your choice.

It's gonna stay a 5 spd and I'll sell the auto trans. Only reason I wanted to keep the auto trans is because it's a fresh rebuild at a cost of over $1200. I'll just put a new clutch in mine when the motor is out. Hopefully the rebuilt auto trans will fetch $400 or so. Shifts great.

I was told I'd also need the whole steering column............damn!. I'll keep it a stick, I like manuals better anyway. I figured I'd save the cost of a new clutch by installing the automatic but it doesn't look that way..................:shok:

anything you gain from going to an auto will be lost somewhere else.

Swap is done! Took pics of the whole thing but I accidentally erased them from my camera. Anyway, the motor runs great!. Put a new clutch, slave cylinder, rear seal and new oil pan gasket on. Soon as the truck was up and running I took it for a spin and found out quickly that the rear suspension and rear end were shot. Axles were bent and wheels were wobbling. Thank god I bought that parts truck as I used the rear out of that too. Right now the truck is just great and I'm happy as hell that I bought the parts truck. Took a hitch, front headlights/grill/turn signals off it as well as a plethora of spare parts such as radiator, alternator, wheels/tires, alternator, power steering/brake pump.........etc. I'll post pics of the finished product soon.

True. Parts truck even had new tires on chrome stock wheels. Used 2 of them on my 6x12 trailer, 1 as a spare and have an extra. Sold several body parts off the parts truck as well. Anyone need an automatic trans from an '00? Has like 10k miles on a $1200 rebuild. Trans works like new.
