ok I have elements 8.. and a beginner on it but i am very computer savy

i have been trying to design paint scheme for my race truck, and they look like crap compare to photoshop pics i have seen that look like a real paint job... I used opacity so it didnt just look like a block of color, and the magic wand never seems to select just the body.

please help... I am think a two tone with an accent color or design, i like black & charcoal with a burnt orange/copper.... also like black silver with green..... black & blue...black and white
