Performance upgrades and... stuff...

NGK V-Powers are GREAT plugs. I switched from OE Autolite DP to the NGK v-powers and got rid of my pingging, so good job there! (I was mainly trying to say to avoid BOSCH +4s and E3s and Pulstar, and all the other overpriced, hey we look cool so some people might pay tons of money for us, plugs)

Stay away from any of the electric superchargers/tornados/TB spacers, waste of money, but I see you have figured that out.

All of the ebay "computer chips" that run inline with your IAT, or your MAF don't really work, and they can be harmful. Stay away from anyting which trys to "trick" the computer into thinking it is getting more/denser/cooler air than it is, so that it will dump in more fuel.

As far as the third link goes, it just takes me to a shopping web site, so I dont know what you are talking about. But if you are interested in a real computer tuner, I would check out bamachips. They are a little spendy, but as far as I know, every one who has used them has been very happy. You tend to get more power from them than from an off the shelf tune from JET or Superchips...

I know everyone is saying a CAI won't do a lick, but I think I'm still going to mod the box to pull more air from my headlight area. Can't I just cut a hole in the box behind the headlight instead of doing this... http://www.freewebs.com/arizonariders/airbox 011.jpg and get a washable filter? Something tells me it doesn't qualify as cold air intake if its open to the engine compartment...
I think the underdrive pulleys look like alot of pop for the money and time spent. I looked for some and only found the underdog pulleys, if anyone has links to other... cheaper... ones. I don't know if I need the alternator overdrive pulley as the only electrical extras I have is a extra DC power point, aftermarket stereo head unit, and very rarely do I use my fog lights.
And on the bamachip, I don't see one for the mazda. I really don't know how interchangable the ranger and mazda are. All I know fir sure is the mazda has a different tranny.

Go ahead a do the intake, I'm just telling you from my wasted $150. That they aren't worth a damn, but they do sound cool. As far as the pulley goes, there used to be a guy on here (user name DZK) who CNCd his own pulleys. I got one and it was great for about 4 years, then the ribs in the pulley started to wear down and I got crazy belt squeal that I could not get rid of. I don't think the underdogs have the same problem.

I only replaced my crank pulley and I never had any problems with cooling or charging. The butt-dyno sure loved the power increase though.

And as far as the Mazda goes.... Your B3000 is 100% the SAME as a 4x4, 3.0 ranger. The programmer will work, and the transmission is exactly 100% definitely the same as any 4x4 ranger with a 5 speed and a 3.0... period. Its a Mazda made M5OD. They are the SAME truck under the skin...

Alright then, so if most of the power loss is in pulley drag... Everything but a programmer and underdrive pulley or porting is useless... Go ahead and get the whole pulley kit, and throw in an electric fan, 400 bucks and up to 23 hp. That sounds like a plan.

Sounds good! The programmers really are worth it, but you have a more cost effective plan there. I haven't done the electric fan, so please if/when you do, tell me how you like it!

I still really want to do the 1.7:1 roller rockers... but I'm still on the fence about them. Anyway, good luck to you sir.

E-fan :icon_rofl:

Here's the facts... If you want power, you gotta pay for it... Otherwise, you won't get it... 23hp my foot... You *might* pick up 3-4hp... If you want power, open the engine throw in some forged internals, and good ported set of heads, and a turbo... Probably the easiest way to get power... You could do a NA build with a high lift/duration cam and higher compression pistons and ported heads, and run 93 octane... BUT, that all costs money that people don't want to spend... It's a truck, not a racecar... Why do you need more power?

I said up to. I don't really expect it. I know the E-Fan is a topic of contention on the forum so I'll drop it until I've tried it, and let you know. Just my thinking is with the fan surface area just turning it would seem to me to be harder than spinning the alternator. I've been looking for a turbo setup online and can't find anything. I do plan on porting and polishing the stock heads, throwing in the 1.7 roller rockers, and the high lift cam. I'll need new valve covers after that... But that'll be six months from now. Until I find a turbo setup and read up on it I don't think high compression pistons are on the plate. Do I need a reason to want more power? :icon_cheers:
