what does a loose cat or per cat sound like when it is loose . i got a sound like a beer bottle rattling around at low rpm's and its not the heat sheilds :icon_confused:

i think he mean pre cat

What is a "per cat"?
it is a small Catalytic Converter that is befor the big main cat its close to the manafold and block . i am sure you truck has a few of them if you have a 2004

'Pre cat', not 'per cat'.

Exhaust could just be loose. One of my rubber hangers deteriorated and allowed the exhaust to rattle up against the frame. Made that exact same noise you described.

the pre cat pre filter the carbon before it hits the main one. by law you need to have both of em. but depending on the sensor location, you can just run main cat. but is technically against federal law to tamper with the cats.

well i just thought they really werent needed so i guess i will leave them then

is youre exhaust any louder than normal? i had my y pipe flange come loose at the exhaust manifold and it rattled like crazy and drove me nuts

The cats make a rocks in a tin can rattle noise. Get a rubber mallet and hit the cats to figure out which one or both. The WORST repair I ever saw was a sharpened piece of all thread rod was driven thru the cat then nuts were put on crushing the casing until noise was gone..............LOL.
