pcv valve removed

Yes, they have 02 sensors, as do the 2.0's. They are microprocessor controlled, and also have baro, engine coolant temp, sensors. It not only controls idle, but fuel flow, and thermactor control :)shady

Heres some pictures for ya!

ok heres the pics. tell me if im wrong but i believe this is an o2 sensor. and theres a picture of the carb. its all original mind you, thats why she blew the psiton apart. see my other thread for that

Well, that sure looks like an O2 sensor...

Someone told me when I first got my 2.0 Ranger that the carb was a hybrid of fuel injection/carb mix...I had no idea what he was talking about...and found out neither did he...

But that pic looks like the one bbl that I tried off a mustang...and it seemed to have connections on the one I tried that I didn't have connectors for...so maybe this is one of those hybrid types...

it sure does look like an old single wire O2. ive never heard of such a system before and i cant image what ford was trying to do with it. are those air injection tubes or EGR tubes in the manifold? if their air tubes, i wonder if the O2 is for controlling the air injection system. are there any other wires going to the carb other than the choke wire (assuming its an electric choke)?

yea it had some kind of plug going into the left side of the carb.

those tubes were combined with the air pump and heater hoses. setup was very weird.

id have to look at it to get a better idea of what its supposed to do.

i guess i was wrong, seems like ford thought itd be funny to try to control a carb with an O2 sensor. ha. :annoyed:

Both Ford and Chevy did this in the early to late 80's with the cars and trucks. I guess no one either saw or chose to ignore shady's answer.

Why do you think everyone changes over their 84-85 Bronco II's to a Duraspark system when the factory stuff starts to go bad. When it works right it is great but when it starts to fail....... well,

ranger

I've seen 83-84 rangers that had a o2 sensor with a carb, they where really bad setup they had a computer and had serious cold start issues, and the carbs had a bad base plate warpage issue with time, the weber upgrade kit seen in lmc where the way to change this issue out

mine actually started really nice when cold, untill i blew the motor:D

If my 2.0 had one it was missing before I got the truck...and every carbed engine that I ran across (Canada, eh!) did not have an 02 sensor...and I've looked at many many many of them...in the junkyard, of course...
