PATS key programming

Hi All,

I am trying to program a couple spare PATS keys for a 2009 Ranger 2.3.

I am following the procedure in the owner's manual but it doesn't work. Yes, I have 2 ORIGINAL keys (bought the truck new) to use for the "masters". The spare keys fit the lock but don't want to program.

titled "Passive Anti-Theft System (Securilock)" says the 07-10 has a type G Pats control function type and in the columns for "max keys" and "minimum keys required" it says "N/A" Also N/A is spare key programming using diagnostic tools and programmed keys. Same is said for the 08-10 F series and 08-10 E series. None of the other vehicles are referenced in this way.

Anybody run into this? Do I have to go to the Stealer Dealer to get some spare keys?

You should be able to program the keys as per the manual. Maybe the keys aren't compatable with the system. Try this, insert a key into the ignition switch, turning the switch to the “ON” position, then turning the switch “OFF” and removing the key. This is done to each of the three keys and must be done within the allowable time limits. Keep in mind that you don't need to turn the key to the “START” or “ACC” positions during programming. Use only the “OFF” and “ON” ignition switch positions.

The following is the procedure to program for a new Securilock key:

1) Insert one of your two working keys into the ignition switch and turn the ignition “ON”, wait 5 seconds and turn it “OFF”. (The owners manual just say 1 second but try this way). Remove the key immediately.

2) Insert the next working key into the ignition switch within 20 seconds. Quickly turn the ignition “ON”, wait 5 seconds and turn it “OFF”. Remove the key immediately.

3) Now insert the new PATS key within 20 seconds. Turn the ignition “ON”, wait 5 seconds and turn it “OFF”. Your new PATS key should now be recognized by the transceiver.

4) Use the new key to turn the ignition switch to the “START” position. If programming was successful, the engine will start as usual.

If unsuccessful, repeat the above procedure, paying close attention to staying within the allowable time limits:

Keys must remain switched to the “ON” position for between 1 and 10 seconds:
There is a 20 second time limit between successive keys.

Customer programmable keys is a programmable parameter. It may not be enabled.

Where did you buy the NEW keys? If you gottem on ebay, they may be wrong for your vehicle or defective........I've run into this at work. Even run into our NEW keys not bein any good, few but far between, but it does happen. We just get another key & move on, but if you boughtem somewheres else, then you kinda hoodooed..

i dont know for sure if it will work , but someone once told me you could put a "good" pats key under the plastic cowling next to the ignition lock cylinder and then just use normal cut keys to start the vehicle with. if i ever get a "pats" equipped vehicle, im going to try that or just bypass the pats feature altogether.

It will throw a royal fit if you forget or sell the truck and someone puts a programed key in it.

Make sure your keys aren't on the same keyring. They must be single keys when they are anywhere close to the switch.
