got a remote start for christmas, found out i need a pats bypass, found some on ebay... 2 main questions, first, do these bypass pats completely, or just while the remote start is working? as i do not particularly want to disable the feature all together, and second, is there any difference between the systems, or do they all work on all vehicles? the one i'm looking at is the 555fw by directed electronics... 20$ on ebay

They bypass only during remote start. And no, not all Bypass Kits are created equal. The better ones require NO key for them to function, and they are easier to install and much more reliable.

My personal favorites are the Xpress Kit. http://www.xpresskit.com/ but there are many well made bypass modules

I have usd the 555 and it works pretty good and is easy to install...

ok cool, the one i was looking at is 555fw and it says it does not require a key to be destroyed, however you do need 2 keys to program it (which i would assume would be the same way as programing a new stock key)

is there any difference between the 555fw the 555pw, 555p and 555pe?

There is, but I don't remember what they are...it's been a couple years since I used one...You might want to contact DEI or their website and find out from them...

ok, another question on this topic, as i just flat out do not have the money to have this installed... how hard is it to install a remote starter? i have never done one before, and personally don't like wiring... that being said, i can do most wiring jobs when i need to... i wired in my rear view mirror (temp, compass, auto dim, garage door opener) did the deck and subs, my driving lights, and even made the whole system for the door lock LED's along with led accent lighting on my bike, LED flasher mod on my bike (is a lot more work than you think) and will soon be doing a complete rewire for the lights on the rear of my bike...

there are instructions that come with the kit, which seem like gibberish to me, but i think they might make more sense as i am in the middle of the install...

If you can wire a HU, then you can do a remote start. You have one primary hot, 2 or 3 ignition wires, and sometimes an accessory wire (this is mainly for turning on the radio) One ignition usually is for HVAC controls, the other ignition is for just that, ignition (some vehicles have 2 ignition wires for ignition and must hook up both). Swing by a stereo install shop, preferably where you bought the remote start, and see if they will give you a wiring diagram for your vehicle, or source one online. It's been a while since I had my program, and only goes up to year 2000 vehicles, otherwise I could send you one :icon_thumby: Whatever you do, do not slpice or probe into the yellow jacketed wire loom, those wires are for the airbag, and any probing will activate the airbag(s) :icon_thumby:

Thanks for the help buddy! I'll get a friend or 2 and a case of beer to get this done!

I can get you the Ford schematics for putting that in your truck...give you all the wire colors and locations for ya.

Is the remote start just a start/stop. Or does it have door locks/alarm as well?

point 1, that would be great, i would really appreciate that

point 2, i uh no... lol it's this autostart/prostart kit at canadian tire for 60$ over christmas... i think it's a 2 in 1 kit... it has a start button, lock/unlock buttons and a truck button... if that's what you are asking

Ok, do you plan on wiring it for door locks as well? This will require extra relays to be wired in as well.

yeah, i don't really want to keep multiple remotes on my ring

Sasquatch, thanks for chiming in and helping, he'll need the schematics for start and door locks...I keep forgetting you have access to that info :icon_thumby:

Ok going through the instructions, I am kinda understanding what it is I need to do, but where do I install the bypass module in this thing?
