Passing without CATs

I would Just take it somewhere and have it diagnosed properly before just throwing parts into it. Just pay a diagnostic fee and if it is something you can fix by all means do it.. Sometimes it is cheaper in the long run to have it professionally looked at then trying to figure it out on your own especially with a obdII system. As for not having cats it is illegal and I know for a fact you get failed for tampering in New Jersey.

Why don't you get the code number and post it here so we can diagnose it properly. Also give us all truck info. year, make, model, engine, trans, 2wd or 4wd. auto or manual. thank you then we can properly diagnose it.

Put a Spark Plug Non-fouler on the downstream oxygen sensor and you can run without cats or whatever you want. No check engine lights. Its like 5 bucks.

Basically by looking at the O2 upstream and downstream sensors and compare bank one to bank two, and assuming the tech looking at the data knows what is good and bad, will tell you if the CAT is bad, O2 sensor out of whack or if there is a problem with the fuel or ignition system.

In short, by proper diagnosing the problem will tell you what has failed.

to fix your problem

ill tell you how to find out it is your cats. 1st off cut them off . 2nd call scrap dealers, 3rd sell it for the highest price, 4th go to auto zone and by a 40-50.00 after market converter. put it on and bam new converter.

I do this to every chevy ive owned because they are worth the most .. most of the time .

then ive you sell your truck you can say it have a new converter

or ive you junk it out you can piss the scrap yard off when they only get like 5 bucks for it

if you punch it out it is the same as a srate pipe so save the time it will not help your light at all .

I do remember when I owned a honda civic there was a thing I got that tricked the car into reading right when I put header on it .

then after all that work, he'll ruin his brand new cat due to an improperly running engine.

fix the motor, THEN worry about the cat.

why would you cut a cat off to figure out if you cat is plugged?

You would actually pull out the 02 before the cat and or unbolt the exhaust from the manifolds and see if it idles revs better. A bad convertor does not cause a misfire even if there is a rear obd II hego

a mil eliminator or a handheld proggrmamer can turn of the cel. as for passing 96s are eec v (OBDII) they run the test from the diagnostic port. mil eliminators or a tune will help the ecu pass the test. If the motor is runing well and in tune and is mostly stock chances are you will still pass a tail pipe test. I passed tests plentry of times without it once on a chevy 2.8l s10 and on a ford 302. If the motor has an timing issue or fuel problem, vaccum leak, rough idle, worn sensors like o2 you will fail. funny enough the best results ive ever seen on a readout after a test the old 2.8 tbi with only a muffler

this is right on I have a car with an aftermarket cat that looks identical and on the inside it is just a pipe. Located in the correct location for the dummy with a mirror . tune the programmer and add lil ; alcohol or some e 85 .. pass every time. SOunds like you have a worn out motor or mis fire issue that everyone is trying to help resolve. :fie:

tailpipe

remember when the ss 454 trucks from factory just had two smog pumps dumping air into the exhaust manifolds to lean the tailpipe mixture ? lmao
I am all for making a green world but it is difficult to take when the military and the space shuttle along with the factorys dumping all that stuff without regaurd and my weekend toy is getting all the blame.. come on
I will drive the egg beater to work but gimmie a v 8 on the weekend at least : feel me :hottubfun:
