The definition of a parabolic springs

What is a parabolic spring?

Basically a DuraTrail Parabolic Spring is a spring that consists of two or more leaves. The leaves touch only in the center, where they are fixed to the axle and at the outer ends, where they are fixed to the vehicle. In between those two points the leaves do not touch each other as they do with conventional leaf springs.

Each leaf represents a complete spring in it's self and will act as such. To enable this the leaf is tapered, from the center (thick) to the outer ends (thin). This tapering is parabolic, it means that every centimeter (or inch) the thickness of the leaf decreases in an amount that relates to the square function of it's length.

They look like this :

I dont see the advantage? I know what parabolic is, but how does it really affect the spring, travel, ride. Not sure

Nearly all leaf springs (recently manufactured anyway) have leaves that only make contact at the center and the end pads (all of my Ranger, Explorer and Skyjacker leafs are like that)

What I see different here is the tapered thicknesses of each leaf, and the fact all of the leaves are similar in length. What affect this has on things like axlewrap and durability of the main leaf though I'm not sure on either. There will still be some interleaf friction at the pads with that design too.
