painting rims

well the grinder would be able to speed it up so i wouldnt be painting rims all day long

Just have them sandblasted. An orbital sander is just going to chew them up, too many little crevices. You don't even have to unmount them, I sand blasted mine with the tire still on the rim. I tested it on an old tire before though, I couldn't get it to make any kind mark or blemish on the rubber whatsoever.

+1

I presume you're working from the steel rims in that design that have the sort of matte silvery color and not factory chromes... I wouldn't try to paint chrome rims.

Sandblasting is the best way, it gets down into all of the folds an such that hide rust. I've painted plain steel rims before and since I've never been able to sandblast 'em (I don't have the equipment and wasn't going to pay someone to do it) I tried cleaning them up as best I could with sandpaper an such. Thought I got 'em good and shot a nice heavy coat (several passes with a rattlecan). By the time the second winter rolled around, I was seeing rust.... a good bit of it. Tried sanding 'em off an shooting them again, but it's been a loosing proposition. Without sandblasting them good and laying a sturdy base coat, rust will come back through, I'm becoming convinced of that fact.

i mean yea i know a place that wouldnt charge me anything to sand blast them but i dont have another truck while they sand balst my rims. and if they were going to do it i would perfer to take my tires off the rim so they could get the enitre thing and and i would paint the entire rim but i dont have that kinda time

No need to do inside of the tire. I'd just see about taking the truck there on a Saturday or something and take the wheels off the truck one at a time an have them blast 'em. Buy them lunch or something to make up for the trouble.

Paint em black. Paint the center caps the same color as your truck. Next Black out the emblums and door handles and the antenna mount and the headlight bezels and the.....

I love the stealth look!
