Hey guys my frame has some minimal surface rust in areas, nothing too bad but id like to clean it up and paint it. What would be my best bet as far as paint? Por15 has to have rust to bond properly so id rather not use that since I would prefer to wheel the whole thing first. Self etching primer and some auto enamel paint?

single-stage urethane is good.dupont's nason line is reasonably priced and durable, with an excellent gloss.

have fun!!

you are planning on wire wheeling your frame??

rent/borrow/buy a sandblaster..where are you located? im sure that there is a member near you that has a blaster...its just so much easier and quicker..

i have wire wheeled a frame too..once, when i was 16 and i didnt know any better...cuz of course once you start you cant stop...and it was a 70's f-series so it took me a while but i did it, and every one after that has gotten blasted.:icon_thumby:

I would just Rhino line it bro. Get the spray and do it yourself or take it to a shop. That will look great and last as well. Mine still looks great...but I have thought about doing the Rhino liner spay on mine after I get the bed and rocker panel done this summer.

I shot my front and rear axles with it 5 years ago, still looks good when you spray it off.

I painted the whole frame and everything else I could reach on my daughter's Jeep with POR-15 about 6 months ago, so far it's holding up fine.

+1 on the sandblaster...

After the frame was sandblasted I had it sealed with an epoxy sealer and then covered that with plain old rust paint...then on top of that I put rubber guard...

Not sure about the other products out there...didn't know about Por15 or any others...

As long as the frame is cleaned though, sealing is the next major step...

where do they rent sanblasters out? ive looked online but havent been able to find anything. im sure the neighbors would love that :icon_rofl:

thanks for the info guys!
