Painting a Stock Chrome Grill

So I plan on painting the bottom part of my grill tomorrow and was wondering what I have to do to get that fake chrome off of my grill so I can paint it?

I took 80 grit sand paper to it and ruffed it all up and sprayed in Flat black with plastic paint... its been on 3 months...

You dont really need to get it off. Just rough it up (i wouldnt go 80 grit, to course imo), clean it, prime it, paint it, clear coat it. Ide go a couple coats each with primer and paint for nice coverage. And when I clean anything that Im going to paint I use windex, since its an ammonia based cleaner and generally helps adhear things to it.

Oh, and.... after I painted my chrome grille flat black i decided I liked it chrome better. But then it was to late...

oven cleaner should remove the chrome if you spray it on and let it set, be careful not to get any on your paint.
