Has anyone ever used exterior paint for their truck? Stupid as it may be I know but I'm only using it for temporary until the spring time comes when I can invest more of my time into it. Will the paint cook off of the hood right away or any other bad effects? :icon_confused:

Why am I asking? I hate the color of primer!

wow..latex..um......

yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.......

right..haha

It's not a dis trust me, just very unusual question. No, don't use it. I know primer looks bad but you can have a paint supply store to tint primer to almost any color you want. It is better for your Ranger and will look SO much better. Latex has to penetrate the wood of a house to adhere to the house. Since metal isn't porous the first time it rains POOF goes the latex. And later when you decide to put color on the truck it will need a sanding and then the automotive paint can go on.

Hope I answered your question. Post anything you need to know about! :icon_thumby:

Great website you found there. I had no idea that it could actually work well. The man with the $26 dollar paint job on his corvette turned out really good it seems. :woot:

hotrod magazine did an article about painting a cheap-o build with exterior house paint... they had to thin it out to the point it was watery, then they had to do a butt load of coats.

it's possible, and it ended up looking really good!!! They only had a few bubbles, but that was because they were in a rush for their deadline... try to look it up, or write the magizine for the article... I'm sure they'd sell the mag to you for a few dollars so you can get that sweet knowledge....

cheap builds rock! especially if it's a trail rig.
