Ovet drive light flashing

Driving other say OD light came on started to flash,started shifting hard. Hook up to scanner code p0734 an p0735 came up. Was told replace the valve body take care of it so I did an it didnt. Email co back were I bought they sent another still didnt work. Check eng light never came on an those were the only 2 codes i got. When changed the valve body fluid was bright red didnt smell burnt. No metal shavings in pan , looked normal. So was also told could be electrical check all connections wires all looked good. Now it shifts 1st to 2nd good 3rd you have to throttal it then light comes on gos into 4th but wont go in 5th but if u push OD button it down shifts like u turned it off. The light resets everytime turn key off. But comes back on when shifts to 3rd . And reverse take a few seconds to engage it hesitates any ideas anyone

Hi, I would like to possibly offer some insight as I have a current problem with a 2010 2.3L Automatic with flashing O/D Off light. How many miles on your truck? I need to do some research on those two trouble codes to SEE what all the possible causes may be.

1997 Ranger with Manual transmission??????

Flashing OD OFF light means computer is seeing a transmission issue and has usually set a code

P0734 Gear 4 Incorrect ratio
P0735 Gear 5 Incorrect ratio

With an automatic this means the computer is not "seeing" the correct output shaft speed when solenoids for 4th and 5th gears are activated

Yes, changing valve body and solenoids "might" fix this and you don't have to pull out transmission to do that
In this case it didn't so transmission will need to come out

Slow to engage reverse is usually a pressure issue, and that should have been fixed with new valve body so there are other issues

The new valve body was not a waste of money since you would need to replace that when doing a rebuild in any case

How many miles on transmission now, and has it been rebuilt before?
A "soft parts" only(bands and clutches) rebuild will last 12-18 months at most, so not a great thing to do or pay for
