stupid question
I let my truck idle for about 1/2 hr this morning and antifreeze was pouring out of the radiator cap.It looked like about 1/2 gallon spilled out.I have in the past put stop leak in the radiator (10k miles ago).
My question is this
1. bad radiator cap
2.bad radiator(clog?)
3.bad water pump..no grinding or weep hole leaks
Now I tend to over complicate things, knowing a little about a lot subjects can be dangerous!
???

stop leak is bad. Think about it, its designed to seal small holes, like the ones in your rad, and other tight areas in a cooling system.

yeah I now know that stop leak is bad.At the time the radiator had a small leak and just wanted a quick fix.

Well I've finally got around to work on my truck.I went ahead and replaced the radiator,upr/lwr hoses and rad cap.I did not replace the stat.Replacement of all of the parts went smoothly. However, I let the truck warm up and took a quick 2 mile trip around the block and the temp gauge went to H.I'm pretty sure that I bled the air out but it still concerns me that its running hot.
I did check the oil-no snot or milkiness color. No white smoke. The fan clutch goes spin with resistance but it is the original. The upr/lwr radiator hoses feel pressurized and feel warm.Hopefully its something simple and not a head gasket/head issue.
so. stat, water pump, air in system, the bypass tube from rad fill or head gasket,

I'm thinking that a truck that overheats at idle has a bad fan clutch.

BTW, I'm moving this to the 2.9 forum where it belongs.
this forum is about interior climate control.
