I was reading in the tech section about this, is the overall width of the 93+ 1.5" or 3" wider than the 90-92 8.8? I did not know if it was 1.5" on each side or overall. Thanks.

1.5 per side IIRC

Yup, 1.5 to each side. So it's a total of 3 inches.

It's the only thing keeping me from putting my 1989 8.8 into my 1993 Ranger with the 7.5 axle.

Actually it's 2" wider, not 3" (the Explorer axle is 3" wider).

IIRC the 19whenever rangers started to 1992 Axles were 3" shorter than any 1993+ axles on Rangers. They had nothing to do with Exploders.

RBV axles have the following widths at the flanges:
'83-'90 D28 front = 58"
'90up D35 front = 59.5" (both TTB & SLA)
'83-'92 Ranger rear axle = 56.5" (7.5 & 8.8)
'93up Ranger rear axle = 58.5" (7.5 & 8.8)
Bronco II rear axle = 58"
Explorer rear axle 59.5"
