I have a 40hp evin. (E40TLEDS) the last couple of years when I winterize it i drain and refill the gear oil. it comes out milkey so I have a leak somewhere, is it possible for a cobblemonkey like me to get a seal kit and install it all myself and is there any special tools that i will need. or is this too technical, with percice shiming ect or is it straight forward???

My grandfather has a '66 evinrude, I have a hard time finding parts down here. Johnson owns evinrude now. I only dug as far as the timing and carb issues. Anythingmore call a johnson dealer and they can prolly answer your questions, also they have the microfilm much like our haynes manual.

You can get the seals and do it yourself. Try here. I don't have any outboards anymore but that's where I've gotten parts. I don't know how old yours is but for my '90s and '00s motors they had diagrams.

Evinrude and Johnson merged in 1936 and their official name became OMC--Outboard Motor Company, with the two former names becoming brands. The motor part of OMC was bought by Bombadier maybe 10 years ago.
