That is way too much milage for an 04. When I bought my 89 2 years ago, it had 119k on it. If you're really looking at the 04, it should be quite a good price drop for that kindof milage.

yeah, i agree with Loanranger (for some reason that's funny), ha, ha. anyway, my '04 has almost 44,000 and I'd say that's on the lower end of average. Just looked at another '04 Edge yesterday: 4.0, 5spd man, 4x4 (same FX4 rims as that blck stepsd), 66,000 miles, and clean, they wanted $11,200.
I'd go ahead and try to sell the SD, my guess is it won't exactly be easy, and in the meantime drive the BII.

justin, i hate to say it but sell the SD and get a beater car for you and heather to use in the event one of your vehicles is down. nothing is sweeter than a dirt cheap car that gets over 30mpg. my cavalier was only 1800 bucks 5 years ago and had 80k on it. is needed a fair share of mechanical work but now has 148k and has not broken down on me yet. trucks are nice but gas mileage on a daily basis is better. not to mention who the heck wants a car payment. the less money you owe others in life the better. having an extra 400 bucks a month after the SD is gone can help ya do whatever you and heather want to the new home not to mention help prevent you from getting into tight spots were money is concerned. vehicles unlike homes (unless you live in cleveland) always gain value as time goes by. put your money were it will help you out the most in the long run. heck look into a 15 year mortgage a year down the road. not having the SD mite make something like that possible. do whats best for you but, vehicles are nothing more than a lost cause as far as investment ( well unless its a classic or a 1 of a kind).

Naw, the B2 is a street queen. I've pretty much rebuilt it from the ground up. It gets about 22mpg in the summer which is great, I also know my old 4.0L ranger I got 20mpg in the summer. The F-250, averages 11-13mpg ANYTIME. But the motor is underpowered for such a huge piece of iron.

I plan on calling them about the Ranger tomorrow.

It was a one owner from mile 7 until they traded it.

Only 11-13mpg's, i know you love that truck but dang thats low, my 92 with the international 7.3l gets 15mpg's in the winter and around 17 in the summer.

I would say get the ranger but I think a 4 cyl. even though i am not fond of 4s in a truck they are actually pretty good in the rangers and whos complaining at 30 mpg's you wouldn't need to filler up every few days it could be a week or two. or maybe just another ford car, australia sells a festiva that looks pretty bad ass in racing strips, they also have falcons with i6's.

I would for sure go the route you mentioned. Are you sure about what you can get for that Super Duty? We have loads of them at our stores and the prices are dropping fast!! Make sure you don't hesitate or it will likely cost you thousands.

Dealers in my area won't even consider taking in trades on any of the SUVs or low mpg trucks. They say everyone is trying to get into high mpg vehicles these days & they will be stuck with the SUVs & trucks. It's been on the news too. They were the grestest things since sex when they were selling them to everyone but not anymore.

Guess that means I am stuck with my '98 Explorer Eddie Bauer AWD with the 5.0 in it. 18 mpg at best on the open road & around 15 in town is all I can get out of it. I have 4 BIIs that all get 18-19 in town & at least 22 on the open road. They are NOT for sale to anyone. At least not right now. I have plenty of good used parts to keep them running & they are all in great shape body wise & mechanically too.

That Ranger wouldn't do anything that either your BII or your wifes Ranger couldn't do. If you are going for something that gets better milage and you already have a fleet that can do what you need you might as well go as small as you can. Personally I am passively watching for an older (80's-90's) 2wd shortbox 4 banger, 5 speed Ranger just for the mileage. Used parts are all but growing on trees and they can be had for far less than even the interest on a newer rig. I would keep my 4x4 F-150 (like you probably would your BII) so I am still covered if the weather turns bad, but I don't need to lug it around town if I don't need to.

Fullsize trucks are still selling pretty well in rural areas as the ethonal boom is giving farmers money to play with, the tiny dealership that my brother works at just put in a order for 20 some odd 2009 Super Duties, so far this year they haven't been able to keep them on the lot. You might keep that in mind for tactics if you do decide to sell it.

Sell the expensive truck.

If you NEED a truck, buy an older one you can pay cash for. Early fuel injected. Then, no payments.

If you DON'T need a truck, buy a small reliable fuel injected car (say, a late-80s Corolla or Civic), and you'll get most of the mileage and reliability you want.

If the car goes down, you have the Bronco II, and vice versa. Just don't let them break at the same time....

And you have NO car payments. You can probably sell the F250 for much more than you would pay for these, so you even come out ahead.

I wouldn't worry about using even a high mileage Bronco II if it's regularly inspected and in good condition as a daily driver. But having a backup vehicle makes it reasonable to take risks with it and have some fun.
