opinions on new dodge dart

My uncle has a focus. No problems, just regular maintenance and maybe an alternator or some other odds at about 150k now. It's a 2.0l '00 or '01 iirc. I like it.

I'd buy a toyota any day before a chevy, let alone a dodge sat in my driveway. Although we aren't talking about classic car/trucks, which are real machines.

I also know several people with great experiences with Foci. They are good little cars. If you get one, I can point you to a GREAT forum for them.

I had a $300 1967 2-dr that smoked, drank & ran around. It was a hoot to drive. The k frame gave away when I hit a pothole at high speed-

Just had one as a rental. I drove it roughly 1000 and I got a trip average of 38 mpg with an automatic @ 70 mph..... it was not awd..... I doubt the awd is getting 40 mpg

Brother has a Focus no problems but the clutch is costly. You want a auto though.
Other brother drives a Fusion don't remember what year but its a okay car he says. It's a government car so a few people drive it.

My advice is you should go rent what ever you are looking at for a few days so you really get a "feel" for the car.

Wife is sporting around in a 2006 Focus ZX4 ST, manual tranny and its pretty quick. Bought her a Steeda short throw shifter a couple Christmas ago for it (or me lol).
Been a good reliable car, worst problem was when a Fedex double tried to share our space on I-5 in Portland...but it proved it can take a hit!
Gets 23-28 mpg in town stop n go depending how ya drive it.
Co-signed on a 2010 focus for the oldest, who won't open the hood and check around unless there's food in there and he hasn't had any issues his his either.

I drive a 2008 Focus S manual with 55,000 miles. I experience snow and ice frequently during the year and the FWD, manual, and good studded tires makes getting around pretty damn easy. You should definitely consider the Focus. The Dart looks pretty damn good but its only been out for a little bit while the Focus has been out for over an decade so parts are common and cheap. Its a fun car and I get around 35 mpg.

I haven't seen any fwd car that doesn't get around in the snow well..... 'specially with studded tires.... the tires on my PT Cruiser are less than 50% and we got around just fine with no studs...... The county I live in is no longer reliable about clearing and salting the roads..... even my V8 powered fwd Continental (R.I.P) did good in the snow.

That should not even be an issue. but reliability and fuel consumption should be the main issues. The impression I got from the Dart was the same I get from any dodge/chrysler and IMO the engine and transmission is going to last forever but the rest of the car is going to fall apart around it.

I would go with the Fiesta or the Focus or what ever Toyota is offering if you want the best fuel consumption and most reliable however the DGI engines offered by Kia are also catching my eye.

There are tons of darts around here and , once i actually finish college and get ino a decent job i'm probably going to buy one for a DD, But i would buy the SRT Version. the 40 mpg version is i believe the Aero. I'm a dodge guy though, i would have bought a dakota before i bought my ranger but i couldn't find anything i liked before i found mine. a focus looks like something my grandmother would drive.

I looked at the Dart......but their option packaging sucks....they really run you through the ringer... "oh, you want this stereo?, well you have to buy this package, with these wheels, and these seats, and this color... Just like the old days.... I finally "built" one that I liked on their build site, and it was over 20,000 and still wasn't close to the top turbo model....

classic dodge. just shows they dont care. when it comes time ill rent a dart and a focus and decide.

A Fiat?

I think I read someplace that the new Dart is based on an Alfa Romero of some sort, due to Chrysler's affiliation with Fiat. No self-respecting girlfriend of a Ranger owner is gonna buy a Fiat, is she? LOL.

In fairness, I was handed a prearranged rental of a Fiat 500. It was such a stupid but cool little car, that I had to know more. I guess Chrysler spent a lot of time working with Fiat, to get the suspension fit for Amercain roads. I had it going 80 on I75 near Atlanta and it felt great. So maybe the Dart is REALLY great?
