Some people's posts read like an exploded can of alphabet soup...
Agreed. When IM'ing or texting I'm a bit lazy for spelling, but on forums I try and take the time to make sure what I'm saying readable, nothing is worse than going into a thread trying to read someones problems and not being able to understand what they're saying.

I guess I didnt realize everyone was anal about this kinda stuff. Guess i'll have to try and work on it so you can read the special people posts:clapping:

I CANT STAND IT WHEN PEOPLE MAKE POSTS IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS AND DONT USE ANY PERIODS IN BETWEEN SENTENCES AND THEY WRITE A WHOLE PARAGRAPH THAT IS ONE BIG SENTENCE :tease:

I'm talking about the really egregious offenses. There's a difference between "bad speller" and "can't spell a damned thing."

I'm not saying you HAVE to fix your grammar and spelling. I just wanted to know how many people here agree that it's important.

Generally, when you post a question, you want as many people as possible to see the question so that your chances of getting a good reply go up. If you run off slices of your potential audience by banging out cryptic, sloppy, meaningless crap, all you'll do is lessen the chances of getting a useful answer.

If you feel you've got some kind of right to write messages hardly anyone can read, then by all means, do so. I have no idea what you think it proves.

Do you think you'd get a lot of helpful replies around here if you wrote all of your posts in Mandarin Chinese? You've got every right to do it, but would you?

So, it's a trade-off. If you want your readers to be kind to you, be kind to your readers.

Beyond that, what ever happened to simply trying to do a good job at whatever you're doing?

It kinda sets a bad first impression too, whether you're in a hurry, or lazy or whatever....

I'd kill the cat....

Simple enough... use it as a speed bump.

I do understand mis-spelling a few words here and there. I'll correct most anyone at that if it's a word that has several other important spellings. Other words that can't be mistaken for something else I won't care much about. Though if someone types on a keyboard like they do on the cell phone... they need to stay off the phone more often. I believe those things help stupidity along.

There, their, they're (place, possession, They are)
Where, were, we're (Question about place, past tense, We are)
Me, Myself, I (Use the proper one for what you're talking about)
Your, You're (possession, You are)
Pore, pour, poor (tiny hole, pour liquid in a cup, impoverished)
Break, brake (crash-shatter-splinter, stopping mechanism)
Write, right (pen and paper, legal ability)

Those are the common mistakes that just irk me like crazy.

Once people know that you're talking and typing something AS WELL AS GETTING THE PROPER MEANING OUT OF IT... then I have no problem. The idea in the writing has to flow... like water through the readers' minds.

I concur, this matter is actually pretty important to me because growing up I've always been an excellent speller and it irks me to see spelling errors heh

hehehe, I'm assuming you gathered I'm joking.
I really dislike cats in the house, IMHO cats belong outside, eating mice and sleeping in the barn.

The transfer of ideas and information is what written word is for, here at TRS anyways. There is a whole literary art that some of us take interest in, and some don't. If the flow of the writing is interfered with because you can't write/spell/punctuate, then it doesn't get a passing grade in my eyes.

Yes, I did take that as a joke. I believe the same thing about cats. I would let a dog stay inside... because that puppy is going to learn and obey. A cat just doesn't offer anything to me that a dog can.

It seems by what you say that you and I have the same opinion on alot of things. Interesting...

IMHO...I used to write plenty of business correspondence for customers and the typing and wording had to be correct and VERY specific due to legal ramifications of misinterpreted language...spell checkers were a must...

I've had customers come back on me due to one simple misunderstanding in wordage (verbally communicated) used by a front-line rep because they said he would get a NEW printer and when a refurb showed up the customer went ballistic...just as an example how professionalism is important...

So, when I come to these forums either seeking advice or offering what little I do know to a fellow Rangerite, I do try to use correct spelling and clear, concise wording when possible...it is, however, as some have mentioned, a forum for anyone who has questions about RBVs so I would not want to see people alienated by imposing rules or having a dozen people blast someone for typos.

For the most part, the comments I've seen in this regard are very kind from the moderators and they help to get things going in the right direction...petty jibes I usually just ignore since they do nothing positive...there are plenty of forums here for banter and that is a good thing...some people come here just because it is like a home and they can unwind, vent, or build valuable connections with other RBV owners...

Oh, and BTW, I do not like abbreviations or lack of punctuation for the most part, but tolerate/ignore it...and I do like to use elipses...in case nobody noticed...hope that doesn't bother others because I feel it (although maybe incorrectly used at times) separates thoughts and avoids capitalization and stil keeps things readable...hopefully!

You know, As long as I can read each post I am ok. If I can't, I just skip over that thread or that post, whichever the case may be.

Also, I EXPECT the spelling and grammar to suck in the late night thread and in the drinking thread...I find that I can understand even the worst posts in these two threads when I am in them....I wonder why.....:dntknw:

:icon_cheers:

Cheers

This all makes me wonder how bad are my posts? haha

I think that I make an attempt to make mine readable.
