Older or Newer?

YOu guys may complain but at the end of the day after you have thrashed your trucks off road or the street and your tired and beat its sure nice to step into a newer vehicle and not have to put out much effort and relax on the drive home.

But I think its getting out of hand too, I went from my 84 ranger with power steering and brakes to my 99 with the same things and I swapped out the auto 4x4 stuff for manual. Its the same thing but more refined. Power steering would be nice on my 4wheeler though it would make plowing my drive way that much easier!

Manually tell your woman to drive home, not the modern way of asking her to.:D

I love my 88 ranger with the manual steering and manual brakes and manual locks and windows! Its just something that cheers me up! Its a real driving experience when you drive the old girl!

I was right with you until I became a Father. My Lincoln has all the modern conveniences that you claim to hate, ('cept the park assist, which i will never pay for) and I am glad I have them.

More to the point ...... I currently have an 18 spd, I can drive a tri-plex, and I have nothing left to prove to anybody...... My pick up has an automatic because i don't want to feel like I am still at work when I am not......

as far as everybody needing to know how to drive a stick...... why? I don't care if my kids ever know how to do that........ in the near future it won't matter anyways unless you got big bucks for high end super cars.

Even then it won't matter, most of them are going away from traditional clutch pedal/shift lever manuals in the name of performance.

For the most part I agree, but there will always be a purist with enough money to have a manual transmission built.

Even big rigs are slowly going to automated transmissions.

I learned to drive with a 1956 ford pickup 292ci three on the tree now that was a truck for sure. Everything on it was bullet proof. The 56 has the chrome grille.

I grew up watching my Dad fix or upgrade his vehicles and his opinion was "if you are going to drive, you should know how it works and how to fix it".

That's why I like basic vehicles. When you pop the hood on some it takes about five minutes ((or longer) to find everything. Maintenance free is good for the dealers because you have to bring it in (and often pay) for them to do the work.

From a new driver standpoint and from those not familiar with proper maintenance it is much easier to start on something basic. I started on a 66 Chevy Biscayne that I did learn quite a bit about but managed to get through 20 years of driving without actually doing any work on my other vehicles.

It wasn't until I bought my Ranger that I actually started to really learn, and I bought it for that reason. The guy that sold it to me said "it needs work".

Understatement of the Century!

Half the time he left it at work or home because it wouldn't start or run right.

I've managed to improve that considerablly...thanks to TRS and my retirement funds...

Okay, I can't stand it. What happened to go old trucks where you really had to press down on the breaks, actually turn the strearing wheel, and actually know how to drive!?!?!

My friends that have brand new cars and trucks are so lame. They have all these anti-slide, park assist. PARK ASSIST!!! ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!?!?

If you need park assist... you shouldn't have a license!!!

If you can't use a TURNING SIGNAL! you shouldn't have a license.

I get told I need a new truck, but I keep saying NO! I love my truck. I like actually having to drive my truck, not drive a f***ing computer!

Even the 2012 YAMAHA snowmachines have POWER STEERING!! THE HELL IS UP WITH THAT!?!?!

Come on now, I'm 100 pounds and I can still throw my 1998 700 triple around in the powder.

I like my simple little truck, it's fairly easy to fix. I don't have to press a bunch of buttons, and I can drift without having to stop and turn off a bunch of stupid "User friendly, safer driving" crap.:annoyed:

The coolest truck I have gotten to drive so far is my ex's 1974 Ford Currier! Yeah. manual too! that truck is freaking awesome. AND it can haul like TWICE it's own weight. Not many of those things putting around, especially the one's from the 70's.

What ever happened to good ol' fashion Hot Rods. Now those are worth driving!

I agree with you on this!! It's all about people in the world becoming more lazy and just plane to dumb to live and drive. How about the expence when some fancy item breaks down after the warranty is up? How about the parking assist going out when some lazy fool is making that tight fit into a parking space?? LOL!!!! I would to see that. I don't care for all that extra crap on any of my Cars, trucks or Jeeps. Simple is as simple is. They are paying more for vehicals now due to these add-ons. This also must cause the price of cars go up every year.

They have been doing add-ons since the beginning of time. Dad's '57 Bel-Air has dual power antennea... only one is functional. The factory spotlight built into the mirror is kind of neat though...

That whole car is one big Sea Mist Green (or something like that) and chromium example of form over function.

What gadget under the hood? ...

Took a closer look this morning. The device is marked "4x4," but maybe it is related to the brakes. I have had this truck only 3-4 weeks and have spent more time working on it, mostly on the clutch, than driving it. Still learning about it and beginning to wonder about the decision to buy it.

Bahahahahaha that little peice of bait was left JUUUUUUUST for you.:icon_rofl:

I saw a toy one of those advertised on tv the other day and it got me wondering if the newer (09+) F-150's are supposed to be somewhat of a throwback to that.

The outside shape of the grille and the shape of the grille bars strike a very strong resemblance.

The 3/4 Studebaker my great grandfather had combines the weight rating of my brother's 4.6 '97 F-150 with the ride quality of lumber wagon. Neat to play with but no offence but if something like that is your only truck you will be pretty easy to keep up with. The ol' Dodge sitting beside it is just as crude but rides/drives/pulls/hauls much nicer. It does have power brakes but you had to get them to get the heavier springs (plus the aftermarket overloads that clack over bumps) The Dodge is actually where I gained my "oil tanker" steering experiance from mentioned earlier.
