old abandoned trucks

I love old trucks!!! My favorite rides have always been the aluminum bodied Land Rover Defender 90 series. We had a 1961 Land Rover Defender when we lived in Africa years ago. My old stomping grounds as a kid. I grew up in Kenya and the Congo. My dad was an AF pilot and he had a lot of duties over in Africa that kept us there for about 7 years. That Land Rover got us everywhere and could carry a ton of stuff whenever we went out in the bush or one a site seeing safari!! We never had a single issue with it.That was the first truck I learned to drive as a kid.
My dad bought an 86 Defender about 12 years ago and loved to pamper that truck!!! My dad said it brought back a lot of memories of Africa. I drove it a few weeks once and really liked that sucker. We took it camping and boating and it just drove so nice!! It was a fun truck to drive and it would go anywhere you pointed it.
My dad traded his 86 Land Rover Rover Defender 90 about two years ago and I wish I had taken it when I had the chance. He was going to give it to me but he said since I have so many vehicals (more at that time frame with the vintage MX bikes) he decided to trade it for a smaller slightly used Flats boat and then he gave the boat to my brother-in-law. My brother-in-law was is in the Coast Guard then and loved to go boating and fishing with my dad a lot. He got hurt and had to sell his boat to pay some bills and my dad just gave him the new flats boat. My dad is so cool!!!!

Some really neat old trucks there! Every year I would buy some calenders from Hemmings, they had one for old trucks, old cars and then of course the muscle cars and late model stuff. Still some old stuff laying around just disapearing into the ground.

There is a lot of it getting a slow boat ride to China too... :bawling:

thats about like my soon-to-be father-in-law's old ford. It was in mint condition when he parked it back in 88. My fiance was born and he couldnt afford the gas in it..lol

naww they aint broke. the tires are off the beads, look closer.

Go dig the damn truck out of the ground and bring her to life, I would do that in a heart beat.

I wish I could save all the old trucks just sitting out there.

Just a tip Jammer, try to avoid using tires over I think it is 5 years (or is it 10 :dunno:) because the adhesive holding the tread on becomes weak :bawling:. When that tread comes off at 65, it's super funnn... :annoyed:

Fine for offroad reguardless of age though, I would be more worried because the have been sitting flat with wieght on them.

Also depends on how much time they have had in the sun.

I love old vehicles and want to adopt them. Then I start thinking about the actual steps to get them mechanically sound so I could drive them and my enthusiasm wanes. I still look though.
