I have an 88 ranger that has the computer controlled carb. the carb is junk.
it has never run right and nobody will rebuild it they all say it is a piece of crap and to put a weber on it which = expensive.
Soo I am putting a carb from a mustang II on it.
Now for the Question that nobody else can give me the answer to.
do I need to change out the distributor? the reason I am asking is because I don't know if the computer controls the timing as well.
and if so what do I need to do to run a duraspark system?

I put a carb for a 2.0 pinto on my 87 2.3 ranger and it ran like a champ. 2barrel weber

what there are no 4 banger smart people on here anymore???
I ain't buying that there are some smart folk on here and I could use their help.
I need to figure this out so I can use the truck for work again.
any idea will be some help so don't be shy

Another site you may wanna check out is stingerperformance.com they specalize in 4cyl mustangs. Personally I would just start with bolting on the new carb and seeing how it runs and go from there lol. But then again im a kinda trial and error kinda guy :icon_idea:

on my 84 which had the same carb setup, the computer did not controll the timing. it was operated by vacumm and advanced the timing via the diaphram.

just slap another carb on and go. but those 1bbls really do suck. getting a 2bbl really wakes these engines up.

I'd be tempted to go with the little old motorcrafts. They were good enough for 351's, should be plenty enough for a little 4-cylinder.
