ive changed the oil pan gasket / oil pan and rear main seal on a 4x4 99 3.0 without taking the motor out
Show me a 4.0 with a steel oil pan.......ANY 4.0 with a steel pan, regardless of which tranny.......

Well, got the truck back. They said the valve covers were rusting thru and had to weld a piece of metal on it to stop the leak. They also said that my cab body mounts need to be replaced and the leaf spring bracket in the rear was shot. lookin at about 700 to 1000 to fix it all up. they weren't able to degrease the engine and look for the real oil leak. and it's fairly major. so i'm kind of bummed right now.
The truck is getting old. If you could do the work yourself, it would be cheap to own. Paying someone else to do the work gets expensive. You need another opinion though, That is a bit high.
The shackle mount and cab mounts are pretty easy to change though.
You just have to have a few special tools.
You still need to find out what is leaking, Don't pay some one to change the pan if it isn't leaking.
