Oil Leak

when you pull the v covers you'll see an area that is between the intake and the valve cover land material, about 1/8 thick. leaks like a sob if the silicone falls out. shoot the gap full of carb cleaner on a warm engine and re goop it. if you fill the hole and get a bulge on the other side it shouldn't leak any more.

When my Distributor leaked, the o-ring i used the first time didn't seal either. What I ended up doing was going to Ford and getting the correct one for my Ranger. (88 2.9L). Heres the kick in the butt it ended up being $8.25! :icon_surprised: and they had to order it in. I replaced it over 3 months ago and has yet to leak.

Just go down to the brew pub in Mukilteo and forget about it. J.K. I've spent quite a bit of time in Everett - at Fluke - and had to razz you a bit. I'm worthless on the oil leak though.

Oh that's funny!! Yeah.....the Diamond Knot is pretty cool place to get a beer. Good food too.( I guess this is a shameless plug for the brewery.) Myself, I work for the Large Aerospace Firm that rhymes with going.

Been by there a few times when the workers were out on strike. I actually know quite a few people in the cal lab. We sell some stuff to them. Rueben Salazar is great!

Ummm - I forgot the Diamond Knot - pretty much forgot the whole night. Where's the moderator with the microbrew addiction. Diamond Knot rules!!

Ordered the 8.13 O-ring from my local dealer. Will be in 2morrow, so we'll see how this goes. Will post findings/observations/problems after O-ring replacement.

I've rebuilt the top end of my 2.9 twice and know that the lower intake gaskets aren't "complete." When installing them they say to "complete" them with High-Temp RTV. The locations this is required is front-center and rear-center (RIGHT near distributor). Maybe see if there's any RTV there. It's going to be difficult, so you might have to end up taking the lower intake off and install a new gasket with the RTV and hope that's it.

OK....so I tried to half-a$$ it. I broke bad with the wrenches last night and pulled the intake off and , yup....whoever did the last install didn't use enough RTV on the back of the engine. I could see where there was a lack of silicone in a small area near the distributor. The land area between the intake and heads had a decent amount of RTV, but Im going to re-do them anyway so there won't be any issues later.

This is getting real frustrating........replaced lower intake gasket to stop oil leak, put it all back together and now it won't start. Cranks good....no fire. Replaced coil and TFI module with spares I had that I felt were known good units. Fuel pump is priming and I can smell gas. I didnt mess with anything else. It ran fine before I tore it apart. Double checked the timing....its right on. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Think I otta just get new and throw 'em in?? (coil and TFI mod)

hey man, what happened?, did you get the leak stopped?

It gots to be running for it to leak. Hey I havent seen you post for a while your probably missing somthing simple are the injectors firing do you smell fuel on the plugs and the plugs are firing. Put your timing light on it and crank on it do you see the mark. You know the drill I`m sure you will figure it out. Good chance to use the remote starter switch you bought.
