Hey all, while driving my Ranger I noticed the smell of burning oil. Crawling underneath, I can see where oil is dripping onto the exhaust. Following the leak, I noticed on the top side of the engine that oil is pooling around where the distributor goes in. Anyone have experience with this?

If it helps, I just did a head gasket on the truck. The gasket set came with cork valve cover gaskets, which were my prime suspect. However, I felt around the rear of the valve cover where it mates to the head and its dry. I did however feel down by the intake manifold on the back of the engine and it is wet with oil.

Am I looking at my culprit? Could oil be leaking from the intake??

Thanks

Daniel

I'd first just check the o ring on the distributor.

I've got to adjust my valves this weekend too, so I'll be in the neighborhood ;)

Any idea if that o-ring is replaceable? Or am I better off ordering a new distributor? I can get it in at work if needed.

It's an o-ring. It's replaceable.

Just make sure to have a new one on hand first. Many times older ones are hard to get short of getting an engine builder's gasket set.

Alright, I'll poke around at work and try to find one that'll fit. I grabbed a handful before we closed yesterday but haven't been able try them out.
