Oil changes

Welcome to the 2.8L and 2.9L V6 world LOL. After 20+ years of dealing with RBV's the oil/filter change isn't so bad anymore, but the oil filter location has got to be about the dumbest, obviously the engineers never have done an oil/filter change in their whole life to realize its a PITA to get to a filter between the exhaust and frame rail...getting to the drain plug in the oil pan is simple, getting something on the filter to loosen it up not so much.

Although, I have to give dumbest idea of fluid checking to Ford once again with my 08 Explorer which has a dipstick for the transmission, but you have to crawl under a running vehicle receive 2nd and 3rd degree burns from the exhaust and catalytic converter to access the dipstick which is about 2 inches away from said exhaust....would it have broke Ford to just put a regular dipstick in the dang thing, I mean come on my 2005 Ford Taurus has a dipstick for pete sakes. You'd think a higher end SUV would have been better thought out LOL.
Well, you’re definitely not wrong… mom’s 02 Explorer is the same way for the transmission fluid level

First of all, thanks for the good laugh.
I have a temper problem and have been known to toss a few things without regard to where those projectiles may land.
I have learned over the years to examine what it is that I am about to toss and measure it against the value of where it might land and the value of what it might destroy. Usually, by that time I have calmed down enough to not throw it.

If I haven't calmed down enough, I pick a less valuable target.

100% the same page.
I think I’ve thrown a tool only a couple times. Always something light, and in a direction that would not hurt anything.

I’ve learned getting angry and or breaking things never makes the situation better.

New rangers are the same way.

On the hhr you have to access the fill & level plugs from underneath, I think the equinox has no way to check or add fluid at all. True throw-away cars. I dont get the concept of a sealed automatic. There’s already so many that never open the hood, I suppose its all about increasing their profit margin by eliminating a $10 part then the consumer needing a transmission or another vehicle once they get a seal leak then run the transmission dry.

Planned obselence or however its spelled.

nissan titans are the same way now. the automatics are mercedes designed and no dipstick to check fluid level so if you get a leak, you are done.

I've never burned my hands on the exhaust manifold.
I tried changing the oil in my 3.0 with the engine warm from driving exactly once. After that I changed it cold, too easy to get a hand against a hot exhaust manifold

Like mentioned before, the new Rangers are bad for oil filter access. Not bad if the filter is installed properly but bad if you have to use a tool to remove it. I’ve managed to get an old style filter wrench in there only just barely. The only other options is the cup style tool, which I’m less than impressed with or only using those K&N filters with the “nut” welded on the end.

The transmissions are nuts too. There is a fill/level check port but you have to crawl under the truck to access it. I guess we are “fortunate” that the cap still has a dip stick on it. Filling the transmission requires a pump since there is no way you are going to get a bottle up in there.
