OHV vs SOHC

I good running SOHC engine, coupled to the 5spd auto, has the upper hand in terms of power and acceleration. Hell it never drops below 3k when it shifts.

The OHV drops out of it's power range with almost all shifts.

On the other hand, my OHV with 4cyl gears and 5.13s is quicker till I hit 4th. But it's not for racing, it has a completely usable torque range for trails.

Id rather listen to a lifter tick until warms up rather than a timing chain slap until it blows up....

I would rather not choose between a ticker and a time bomb period.

Seriously??? You know what he means... No one here is stupid enough to think the SOHC isnt also over head valve, its just a simple way to differentiate the two engines.[/COLOR]

I always thought the SOHC was a single overhead cam flathead? :icon_confused:

Never need to go over 2k RPMs??? :icon_rofl: I'm over 2K just to cruise down the freeway at the posted speed limit. (because I would NEVER exceed that.)

The parents old '94 Explorer routinly hit 2500 as it tried to drag its fat A double Z up a hill at 60mph.

It was like a one legged man in a butt kicking contest when it got into hills... 235/75-15's and 3.27's. The '02 that replaced it would blow its doors off on demand with the SOHC and 3.73's. Not much more power, better gearing and a bigger/heavier carcass to drag around.

Im old and when I bought my Ranger I looked for one with push rods. I used to build a lot of V-8s and love the ease when tearing one down. Such a simple design that works when you need it to. I came out of a 5.0 Exploder before this 4.0 and while it doesn't have the power of the V-8 it does the job for me.

Does pulling the engine to do a PM at 75K miles sound like a normal procedure to you? Having chain guides that crappy is BS. The same type guides in 30 yr old BMWs are doing fine with 300k on them. Ford doesnt care, it wants you to buy a new F150. Not keep your old Ranger going. :D

I like the Rat ,despite the fact it is a Ford. In a perfect world , I would be driving a '47 GMC pick up. The Rat is gonna hafta do until , I find one. :D
