OH NO HO NO oil pressure

Got the news form the engine shop. Scored the main bearings , that is it!:yahoo: Crankshaft journals, connector bearings etc are OK. The engine builders left the oil pump and rod up to me. I bought the engine in peices and some where along the line I missed the step of putting in the oil pump rod. I do have something else to be thankful for this thingsgiving!

Awesome news!! Now upon reassembly, don't forget to prime the oiling system with a drill, and also don't forget its counterclockwise :icon_thumby:

I didnt think that they would find alot of damage in there but I would have bet that the rod bearings would have been badly scored to, thank god for that splash lubercation. Well good for you :icon_thumby:. now get that engine back in and lets hear it run. :headbang:

Man you got lucky. To run an engine that long with no oil, and only have smoked the main bearings.

oil pressure

Got the Engine back from the builders last night. I got the Engine hooked up to the trany and motor mounts. Had a really good day..About two more days of hard work and it should be running again:yahoo: Owe a big slap on the back to my buddy Logan and my son Jacob.. :icon_thumby: It is amazing that I only scored the rear main bearings.. Since they come in a set they put all new main bearings in. About $160.00.:icon_cheers:

distributor

Well I finally found some time to get back to putting things together and the distributor won't seat. I have an MSD PN 8456. It sits about 0.124 inches proud. the O ring is just bearly in the block. The old distributor (minus the timing gear) seats OK. I have rotated the engine with the distributor, with out the distributor, rotated the oil pump shaft etc. No luck, The old distributor has less depth than the new distributor so I know that the oil pump rod isn't to high. the only differance I can find is that the gear retaining pin hole in the distributor shaft is about a 10th of an inch lower on the old distributor. I am going to get on MSD tech forum soon as I can but I thought maybe some one here would have some info! :icon_confused:Any clues on whats up?

You might have to get out some calipers and see what is different.

The gear pin hole is probably a moot point, the gear could be shaped differently and the shafts are a different length to compensate... hypothetically.

I am using an msd in my old montego and I had the same problem it turns out the drive shaft for the pump didn't fit the gear in the dizzy I had to pull the pan and pump remove the shaft and sand it down till it fit. hopefully that is not the problem with yours. I believe the shaft was an arp shaft and it didn't take much sanding either.

distributor won't seat

Thanks, I pray that isn't it. I really don not want to pull the enginge AGAIN:icon_rofl: The oil pump shaft seems to slide in nicely and the old distributor engages, probably over an inch or so..
