yeah 4x4=2 and 4x2=1; get it?
 
One of the best ways is to drive onto your front lawn in the spring when it is nice and wet and do a brake stand...check to see if both wheels leave ruts or just one...

Do it at night so you won't be seen and you can blame it on some neighbor kid...:)
 
Put a floor jack center of the rear axle and lift both tires off the ground put the tranny in neutral spin one tire forward if the other tire spins forward you have a LS if it spins backwards it`s open.

the tag on the axel will have a l/s on it it will mean limit slip
