Oh boy, money pit alert! I beg of you, convince me not to buy it!

Lol
Sounds like a way to have some fun, but not exactly a good way to get to work in the morning!

I think you need to get the BII. Any old truck you get is going to need work including a BII and that jeep looks like it needs way more then a years work and a couple thousand dollars... Where as a BII for a decent price and in decent shape will probably need minimal work and the cost of basic things like plugs, wires, oil, filters ect.

I say go with the BII, I mean sure you might not be able to get THAT jeep but another one will appear eventually and probably after you got your BII up and running. PLus a BII is a fun little rig and you can fix it up to be semi capable with little money. Heck a 500 dollar suspension lift and some 31's would run you 1000 buck if you did some shopping and you already have a sweet little rig.

Finally, some sanity!

Thats exactly what I should do!
Unfortunitly I don't wan't to...

I guess I probably go see it when they auction it, and get a better idea of the condition.

If it looks like it will need a full restoration I'll probably leave it.
If I think I can get it up and running for for a few years for, say $1500 maybe I'll give it a try.

Eventually I'll get a better DD then I might attempt a restoration.

Edit
Then again, maybe I won't.
I just saw a nice running 86 Bronco II with 2" lift for $600 for sale near me.
Indecisiveness is an awful thing!

Well, I've been doing some more thinking and reading.

I was looking at the Rangers and Bronco IIs on craigslist and finally started thinking, "I don't wan't that Jeep,It's old, It will need a lot of work, It will be expensive, it's slow.....

Why would I wan't it anyway?
I'll just get a Bronco II.

Then I look at the picture of it again, and all that goes right out the window....

I dunno

Maybe Original-Ranger84 is right, It's not the only jeep around.
And the Bronco IIs are nice...

get that bronco for 600$

and stop thinking about the willys or u could do something dumb.

Trust me dude, getting the BII will be much better in the long run. Just the money you'd have to dump into the jeep would make that $600 bii better at the starting gate. I dream very frequently about cooler vehicles, but as soon as I start up my truck, it all goes away

If the Jeep is only 800 or less and if she runs, get her, she is a rare sumbitch that is fun to drive! I have taken one of those offroad before, beware, the tranny takes some time to get used to, but its fun to drive! =D I would climb hills in reverse though, more power + speed then first gear for me XD.

If you MUST have a DD, get the bronco II, but remember, you can get both, but not the exact vehicles.

You can buy the jeep, and save for A bronco II or ranger.
OR
You can get the bronco II, and save for A jeep.

Well, after another day of thinking, I think I might have a plan.

I'm going to go look at the Jeep and see what kind of shape its in, and if it doesn't look to bad I'll probably go for it.

But I won't spend as much as I was first thinking, I think Ranger Kip's got the right idea, no more than $800.

Tomarrow I'll take a look at insurance to see what thats going to cost me, if its not to bad, then maybe its not out of the question to get the Jeep, and a Bronco II.

Now, I realize this isn't the Jeep station, but would anybody happen to know what axles are in those Jeeps? I'm thinking maybe with a few inches of lift I could fit 33" tires on it and bring the top speed up a little.

Now I just have to get some money together and wait till the middle of next month for the auction.:annoyed:

Well The problem with the jeep is... Bad gas mileage, Slow speed, underpowered (so even larger tires will not help it.), plus I imagine insurance on it will not be cheap seeing as its supposed to be a classic type jeep. I would seriously advise getting a BII or other newer vehicle. Also if its as rare of a vehicle as other people say and its at an auction... there is no way you are going to out bid a collector when you want to get it for cheap.

Score 1 for the Bronco II

I just realized how big that Jeep is, 118" wheelbase!

That sucks!
I thought it was more like the size of a Ranger, nice and small and handy.
I don't really think I wan't something that big in the woods.
Actually, thats the main reason I like the Bronco II over the Ranger, because it's smaller.

Well, it's probably a good thing, that may be just the thing I needed to hear to keep from getting something so incredible impractical.

It may not be out yet, but it's certainly down, I think the Bronco II's chances are looking good.

just go for a bronco man.... trust me. ull be able to get a proyect later. cuz that jeep is not a DD, thats a proyect for restoration.

i know some old Rangers near me for sale that would be a nice pryect, but just because of that i wont sell my perfeclty running DD/budget proyect to get a truck that doesnt even run and has a lot of money on expired tags.

got what i mean?

Well, it's officially out.
As much as I like it, I really don't want something that big.
That combined with everything else, and It just isn't worth it.

If anybody is really interested in it, I can send you the link. It's on July 16.

What I like most about the Bronco II, is that it's just about the same size as a CJ7, which is what my parents had. In my opinion, the smaller the better.

Thanks for all the convincing, even though I like the Jeep, it really wouldn't have been very good for me.

Good call, those old Jeeps are fawking hard to find parts for. My buddy had a '67 M715 and had to order parts from some obscure website because none of the parts stores had anything for it.
