Odometer doesn't match

Hi all, I used to have an old ranger long time ago and loved it. Many years later I'm still kicking myself for selling it so I found a lead on a 95 with 5spd and 4.0 4x4 for appx asking 2200. Seller states 86k original miles and odometer agrees, however carfax shows 89k when registration was renewed in 04!

Pedals don't show wear, but I'm not sure that is a reliable indicator.

Ford says no way to pull mileage from ECU, so I'm wondering if it is even worth the time to test drive it. Thoughts?

Hey, go crap your pants, Poo boy....lol. Why are you asking us? Go drive the darn thang and see what you think...we can't test drive it for you. Post photos and show us what it looks like.....If it is clean and the interior and body looks great and there is no rust on the frame and it shifts and handles great and stop greats you are getting a good truck. It could have been that somebody misread the milage when they transcribed it. It's happened before.

Spend the $ for a Carfax.

If it ever went to a quickie-lube joint or had a repair (from a participating store, which is MANY) the true mileage should be apparent from that report.

You are questioning a 3000 mile discrepancy on a vehicle that old?

That could be something as stupid as writing it down wrong when the registration was sent in, or the goob at Carfax hitting the wrong key on the keyboard. Heck, most years I just guess at my mileage when I send in the renewal, as long as it's close to what I put down at inspection I don't worry.

i normally wouldnt get hung up on 3k miles, but that mileage was reported in 04. even if mileage was doubled, is it a good price assuming it seems to drive and ride ok?

maybe i put too much importance on mileage?

It's not a bad price if the truck is in good shape.

I'd say you are too worried about mileage. 3 months worth of average driving on an 18 year old truck is a drop in the bucket.

Heck, my odometer is off by 200,000 miles.
