A worn out fuel pump will draw more current... draw your own conclusions about your melted connector. Or, you could put an ammeter in series and find out if the draw is more than normal. With the years and miles, it isn't hard to imagine the brushes are almost gone, as it runs whenever the engine is running.
Get thee to a boneyard for a replacement rollover switch. You never know when you will get t-boned and flipped. FoMoCo didn't put those switches in for fun.
A replacement pump is less than $50, closer to $30. Some say it is easier to raise the bed than drop the tank. Your choice.

The relay should be in the passenger side kick panel, near the ECM.
FWIW, the pump should run when you put the jumpers in the OBD test connector.
