OBD I Error Code 63

My 93 with a 5.0L has been sitting for a while. I have been tinkering with it, and am getting an error code 63.

Given the error, and erratic idle, I assumed the throttle position sensor was bad. I put a new one on, and the idle was a little (not much) better. However, I am still getting a 63 error code.

Further research says there could be an issue with the right-side O2 sensor. I will check on that in the morning.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else the problem could be?

The engine is a 5.0L, wired as a '93, with an AOD trans. I am running a Mustang computer from a '91. The engine was newly built before the swap, and has about 25K miles on it - before being parked.

Guy in the book says code 63 means the signal is low from the tps sensor. When you get this code, he says the first thing to do is unplug the sensor, and make a jumper to go between the Vref wire (usually orange) and the signal wire (usually darkgreen/lightgreen). Then repeat the KOEO test.

If code 63 comes up again, check for 5v at the Vref wire

If you have 5 volts on the vref wire, then you need to repair the tp signal wire to the computer.

If code 53 was generated with the jumper in place, then the sensor is bad

If the code 63 was generated in the memory codes, then put the computer in the wiggle test mode and mess with the wiring, you might have a bad connector somewhere.

In other words when you jump the vref to the signal wire, you should get a code 53, tp signal voltage too high.

I am about to pull off the TPS connector, to jumper the wires, when, low and behold, I find a broken wire! The green one. Unfortunately, it was very close to the connector. While I was straightening out the wire, to figure out how to solder it, I pulled the wires out of the connector. :eek: Makes me wonder how it worked i the first place.

Anyhow, I have new connector on order from O'Reillys - it will be after lunch tomorrow. Three quick solder connections, a little shrink wrap, and hopefully I am good to go!
