I replaced the serpetine belt and tensioner 2 weeks back and afte just a few days, I developed a noisy squeal coming from the belt. A friend told me to take a piece of chaulk and with the truck running, hold it against the ribbed side of the belt. I used a piece large driveway chaulk from the grandkids and held it in between the ac and power steering pump where there was room enough so I could my hands safely clear of moving parts. Worked like a charm, noise gone. Just thought I would share this little tip. Just be careful.. :icon_thumby:

i have that problem to i though its just because i bought a cheap duralast serpentine belt so you just used sidewalk chalk and gently pressed it on the ribbed side of the belt and it stopped the sqeaking? everytime i take off i hear it once the car warms up it kind of fades but ill give this a try thanks

thats only a tmeporary fix, the chalk will wear off after being run for a little bit. I use this method at work to help diagnose belt noises. You can also do this on the flat side of the belt.

irishblessing: It'd be a good idea to not use the cheap belts, in my experience they tend to create squeaks, not get rid of them. Its worth the extra ten bucks or so to get a good belt that wont drive you nutty with noises.

i dont know if it was a duralast belt or not i i think i ended up saying screw and just went to ford to pick up a motorcraft belt but i dot remeber or maybe itsa gatorback belt i have no idea lol
