no speedo of odometer

It's not a ranger but I figure there should be enough similarity to at least give me an idea. Vehicle in question is a 2000 windstar, it's not throwing any codes but the speedo and odo. are not working. it does have the abs light on but the light was on before the speedo stopped working. any thoughts would be appreciated.

Check the fuses.

The Windstar is closer related to a Taurus than a Ranger. The ABS system and the speedo have no connection.
The speed sensor in the trans has probably failed. As the others said, start by checking fuses. I have replaced many of these sensors but, have never replaced a speedo in a Windstar or Taurus.
You should also find out what is wrong with the ABS, it is never good to drive around with a light on.

I think that the Windstar VSS was one of those things that was known to fail. Does the trans feel like it shifts a little differently? One easy way to test the speed sensor would be to use a code scanner that views live sensor data, you can view the speed as the engine computer sees it and if it shows 0mph while driving then you know that you have a problem without having to even touch a tool yet.

The fuse for the rear window defroster was blown. The speedo, odo and abs was on the same fuse, who the hell dreams some of this stuff up. Cleared the problem on the defroster curcuit and everything else came back on line.
