i was under the impression lunchbox lockers required no gear set up and can just go in the carrier with little know how. I hope i wasn't mistaken.

you are not mistaken. just to be clear, there are two types of detroit locker. the traditional full carrier locker and the Detroit E-Z locker which is a lunchbox locker.
