No rear end Expo.

buying a wench for a borrowed trailer is not in the plan, but would be a good way to repay the favor of a borrowed trailer. Lots of good points fellas, thanks. Keep'em coming.

Wenches are expensive, especially if your wife finds out and will be essentially worthless for getting a one legged Explorer onto a trailer.

Bolt some 2x8s under it and pull it up with a come-along.

Fun fact: come alongs work better if you say "come on" everytime you pull the handle...
Would it help any if you had “Come On Eileen” playing on the radio?

Getting the truck back off is the easy part...
Chain it to a tree and drive away.
You find a tree of sufficient substance in southern Saskatchewan.

I gave directions to my parent's place to some friends from Ontario by saying "continue past the tree for 2 miles, then make a right". They thought I was nuts until they got close and could see the lone tree 10 miles up the road. It's known as bald @$$ prairie for a reason.

Besides, I wanted the Explorer in the garage. I did think about putting a couple bolts into the concrete of garage floor, but decided again that. With 8 ratchet straps, the kids could each operate a pair and they turned it into a contest, which made the job fun.

You could plant a tree and wait?

OK... you know what tree to use.

I hope this is an attempt at a joke. Don't do this. In the long run it is why prices go up and companies go bankrupt.
Seriously? A returned winch could cause a company to go bankrupt? I guess for the humanitarians sake, BUY the winch, USE the winch to load and unload truck and then KEEP the winch so no one loses their job and we all have to pay inflation on the next winch. Have you seen how HF does returns? They just sell it for 2% less than normal price. I've seen them HF winches do some crazy heavy work too. Normally issues with winches are either operator error or installed/wired wrong. To me, I wouldn't waste my time with an explorer with THAT many issues.... Does it run? Does it shift good? Your pretty much buying a scrap vehicle and theres a reason why its only $250.... I bet the motor/trans are junk and the seller is trying to get scrap prices without the work of getting rid of it.... I'd leave it be unless you can start the engine....

If you buy it and the engine is bad then what did you buy? What are your plans with this anyway?

He has been looking for an engine/trans to swap into his Ranger for years.

Either the engine or trans is worth $250 if they are any good, plus the scrap value of what is left. A core 5.0 is $100+ is around here.

I could part the thing out and almost double my money. It may take a long time, but it could be done, and I am a very patient man. The body is in great shape, not a dent in any panels. all the glass is in it. I see a lot of explorers running around town with a garbage bag covering a hole , all the time. If I pulled the Motor and Tranny out, I could still probably get $200- $300 for the carcass for scrap. It is also a starting point for me at the least. as @85_Ranger4x4 mentioned, I have been looking for a decent donor at a decent price for a long time. For me, this is it. If it was running, with no rear end and no left spindle, they would be asking$800- $1,000 easily, and would probably get it. I don't need the spindle and a rear end is easy enough to get from the yard. My Ranger has a 3.73 in it now, that should do alright at first, right? It had all new (blue) bushings on the front suspension, so I think it ran before they removed the rear end.

I pulled the trigger and paid the lady. Now to just get it home.
