No one is invincible

+1 on the auto darkening mask. If I'm using a regular one, without fail, I will flip it down and strike an arc before I realize that I didn't flip the shade down too.....:( For me, it's one little flash and I've got sandpaper for eyelids that night.

As much as it sucks in the summer, I've even stopped welding in a t-shirt. After a few nice sunburns on an 8 inch section of my arm, I've started throwing on an old sweatshirt while welding for long periods.

Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Done the same thing once, except it wasn't my eyes that bothered me, my eyes aren't sensitive to welding, it had sunburned my face badly and started to peel the next day.

Whatever you do, protect your eyes. I'd give anything to have even fairly normal vision again. I'm legally blind and have to wear contacts or glasses full time. It wasn't an injury, just a natural degeneration. Point being that if it is within your control to protect yourself then do so. Not trying to preach, just a piece of advice that can't be reiterated enough.

+1, I've had to wear glasses/contacts my entire life. It mainly just sucks when doing things where they get in the way (football, wearing masks of any sort, helmets, etc.) because if they break, I am screwed. I was playing football once, we actually hadn't even started and one idiot threw the ball at me, hit me in the face, broke my glasses. I couldn't even drive home haha, and we were only a couple miles away. So protect your eyes, I'd kill to not have to wear glasses.

Everyone in my family has glasses, but I toughed it out and just dealt with it.

Until I just got my license this year renewed and BOMBED the eye test. And I didn't register to vote this year, again. :D

So, now I have an 'A' restriction. I did have a 'B' when I turned 16 because they determined by depth perception was off. But somehow I got by and had the restriction removed by squinting really hard and half ass passing the test.

The eye examiner had no clue how I've been driving for so long with such piss poor vision. They said I was legally blind, but IMO I can see just fine :). I knew it was pretty bad because I had difficulty reading letters from the second line of the chart. Yes, under the big 'E'.

I think it's from years of setting in front of a computer screen. If anyone is wondering :), I've never been in an accident or had a ticket, besides seat belt (2). But I have had speeding warnings (3).

But I do notice that when I wear them (very rarely) for a half an hour, then take them off, it's blurry like I had been in a pool w/ lots of clorine with my eyes open for 20 minutes.

But I've caught a few flashes from a stick and mig welder, but I always wear a helmet. Never had a problem with eye lids feeling like sand paper or sun burn..
