Nissan Diesel motor?

i have had a boner for the hilux 3.0 with a manual.

the mexican powerstrokers i just looked at were way overpriced. if they were complete for what they wanted i would buy it but that guy is crazy. 170 plus km with no turbo or harness for 3200 american....no thanks.

2500-3k with a manual trans is my goal for the engine i want.

that tractor motor would just piss me off. maybe 110 hp safely out of it.

i know the hilux will run a 10 sec 0-60....any slower is just pissin me off.

pissin me off means that slow to deal with the downsides of the nvh and the diesel stench from fuel and exaust along with being slow.

Didn't know if you were just going for milage or what your goal was with the BII. :icon_twisted:

BTW the 60hp is at the PTO shaft on the very butt end of the tractor, it could be close to 100hp at the flywheel as it sits especially without the hydraulics and extra stuff pulling. My 1950's tractor loses 20hp between the tractor (PTO) and power unit (flywheel) rating and has a whole lot less going on.

Not a bad deal... They actually sell that same vehicle here new in 4X4 for about $18,000 new. If you manage to get it keep us up to date on how it goes.

The only thing I'm reluctant about is the turbo is bad. Haven't talked to the guy so I don't know if it just needs a rebuild or what. Also I haven't found any info on whether I can bolt a tranny/tcase from a ford up to it. But I'll search around and see.

Turbos are cheap to rebuild, as long as the impellers arent damaged.

As far as the bell housing.. Its a Detroit and Allison, I would assume its an SAE variant. Phoenix Adapters will probably have an adapter to whatever trans you want to use.

And if they are damaged the whole engine can (usually) be toast too.

Engines don't like exotic alloys bouncing through them at really high speeds. :icon_thumby:

Intercoolers... They're good for more then just cooling the air charge.

I stumbled across a site that a couple of guys put a Nissan diesel in a yota pickup. I didn't even know Nissan made a small diesel motor. But another side question is besides the 4bt and vw tdi what others have you guys heard of? I've searched the site but didnt come up with much. Just lookin for ideas since I can't get my hands on a 4bt. Thanks in advance.

Years ago I had a Toyota Diesel pickup all raging 62horsepower
Eventualy I sold it to someone who was shipping it overseas.

My "issues" with it were the fact that the injector pump was
driven by the cam BELT, it required $800 worth of special tools
to adjust the injector pump timing and my aggrevation was that
nothing I tried could keep the timing from drifting requiring readjustment.

Typically when it drifted it would crack one or more of the rigid injector lines.
These invariably needed to be shipped from Japan.

What I replaced it with was a 1982 Nissan with a Diesel the Little SD25
engine.

the Nissan was an all cast iron PUSHROD engine and the injector pump was driven off the back side of the came gear, I bought it with 110,000 miles on it and had the timing adjusted and the injectors rebuilt almost immediatly.
I NEVER touched the timing again but had to do the injectors again at 250k
and it was due as I approached 370 when the frame SNAPPED in half.

I was working on a deal for a 4x4 frame (Nissans that vintage used a divorced T-case and a 2wd transmission) when I got two offers, one for the Ranger Supercab I still have the other for the Nissan in "as-is" condition because someone wanted to use the engine to drive a 40KW generator, something
it was well suited for.

All depends on how much the little monkey driving the truck cared. It was stolen? My vote is it ran until it quit and then the battery was drained trying to restart their new dope hauler.

Intercoolers ain't cheap either, the last one I sold was a cool $870. That was for a 1970's John Deere 404 (4630)

Alright thanks man, much appreciated.

So you're saying that the nissans are good diesel motors? So how did the frame snap in half?

I would assume most parts in a diesel are about 3x more expensive then a gas motor? If I go look at it ill see if the thing even starts and listen to er' but me not knowing to much about them... I don't want to get it home and find out I bought 3k in scrap.

The Isuzu was NA.....a real dog but got great milage. If a diesel is not blown there is no reason to even consider it.

Great mileage is a good enough reason for some of us. Reliability is another. I own several Diesels, and not one of them is a turbo.

I would like a diesel not for mileage or drag racing but for the torque. My VW Jetta TDI 2.0 gets 230 lbs with 140 hp. For the Ranger that would be great since I want the low end power for going slow.

Sent from the road while ignoring traffic

Call a diesel shop and price a turbo and intercooler so you know at least what that is going to run before you get married to the thing. If you don't know much about them you might see what it would take to have them just fix it too.

Parts are generally more expensive for diesels than gas engines... especially if you pay someone to do it (which is still cheaper than doing it yourself and mucking it up though)
