Hi all, New here and new to Ford Ranger. Just bought a new 09 XLT Supercab w/2.3 and manual trans. We've been getting to know each other, but getting along just fine so far. MPG was a major deciding factor but the quality and reputation of the Duratec and Ranger in general had a lot to do with my choice. I needed a pickup for my retirement plans and with gas prices on the rise again... Hey,the $3000 rebate didn't hurt either and it looks like Ford may be the most likely of the Big 3 to be around in the future when I need them for service and parts, etc. I definitely wanted to buy as American as possible although that's pretty hard to do with all of the outsourceing going on today. Just thought I'd say hello. Now I want to add a limited slip or locker to the rear end before next winter.

Welcome! 4-banger Rangers run forever. I'd go with a limited-slip if most of your driving is on-road, or if you want something a little stronger, a Powertrax No-Slip if they make one for the 7.5" rear axle that your truck has. A few sandbags and good snow tires like Blizzaks and you'll be good. I have Blizzaks on the wife's Taurus and it goes every bit as good in snow as my truck and stops better. Even in deep stuff.

go with L/S since a locker will give you wheel hop around corner on city roads and trow your rear out on snow or ice

Thanks, I'll take that advice and probably go limited slip. The TruTrac sounds like a very good piece, but if money's tight I may just go with the Ford unit which is often priced pretty low. I know it has clutch issues, but I'm not hard on drivetrains at all, so I should be okay with it.

Welcome to TRS...hope you have a long and loving relationship with your new truck...but I must say I'm jealous...lol

Gotta love our Rangers. Treat it right, and it will keep on going. Just like the Engergizer bunny.
